How beautiful is the lake at at Rufford Abbey Country Park? 🌳

Whether you want a few hours walking through the woodlands that surround it, have family fun feeding the ducks or take a boat out on the lake for while - there’s plenty of ways to enjoy yourselves here!

Set in the beautiful Nottinghamshire countryside, Rufford Abbey offers a perfect family day out!

Think leisurely walks through the picturesque grounds, a more energetic run around the lake or woodland walks with dens galore! There’s plenty of places to relax and eat, and they have fun seasonal activities all year round, such as boating on the lake, archery, a traditional funfair, and lots of fun and free adventure play options!

It's just a few miles drive from all of our properties and offers the most wonderful woodland playground for you and your families to cycle around no matter what your abilities! You don't even have to own a bike - simply hire one from our friends at ! 🤗

The kitchen of dreams! 😍 It’s just gorgeous isn’t it?

We LOVE how the light streams through the patio door and the huge windows (they’re 3.5 metres high!) It fills the open plan living area with such a gorgeous morning light?! ☀️

It’s the perfect place for that first coffee of the day, standing, looking across your dreamy holiday home, with the light bouncing off the seamless and super sleek kitchen units and the scent from the fresh flowers filling the room, ahhhhhhh! 🙌🏼

What better way to start a holiday day! 😍

One for the meat lovers - our local village butcher really is the best! 🥩🥓😋

A beautifully presented shop right on the doorstep of The Old Chapel Apartments - it's less then a minute's walk making it the perfect place to pick up some handmade sausages or freshly sliced bacon for a breakfast treat or dive into their deli selection and have a delicious picky tea (or picnic if the sunshines) you'll relish! 🍖🧀🍯

How lovely does this look?

Sherwood Forest was one of our favourite places as kids. It’s a place we went on school and brownie and cubs trips, explored with sticks in hand, looking for chestnuts and conkers that would win any battle!

Offering woodland walks for all abilities, and plenty of picnic spots and benches to catch your breath and sit in nature, it’s a lovely place to wander through the woods and spend a few hours.

🚗 Parking is paid and £5 for the day.

🌳 There’s an option for guided tours to learn more about the history of the forest, and the flora and fauna whose home it now is.

💡 Our top tip… take a picnic - there are a couple of options for cafes - in the Arts and Crafts centre and also the Visitor Centre, but through the forest you’ll find plenty picnic areas and some grassy areas where the kids can play - you’ll have a great day!

Step back in time and savour the quaint craft shops and cafe in the Arts and Crafts Centre at Sherwood Forest.

Just a stone’s throw away from The Old Chapel Apartments and a short drive from our other holiday homes, this is a lovely place to visit, pick up a souvenir from the wonderful selection of local artisans and enjoy some coffee and cake as you watch the world go by.

It’s really peaceful and a perfect way to spend a couple of hours enjoying a little bit of history.

Have you ever seen Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves the classic Kevin Costner, man in tights movie, running through the woodlands of Nottinghamshire thieving from the rich to give to the poor? 🏹🌳

Did you know the forest that was Robin Hood’s hideout was our Sherwood Forest - the wonderful woodland right on the doorstep of our Village holiday homes? 💚

Sherwood Forest is one of the most famous forests in the world, thanks to its association with the legendary outlaw Robin Hood. But little known (they didn’t teach us much about this in school!), the forest has a long and rich history that dates back to the Roman era.

So what’s the story? In the early Middle Ages, Sherwood Forest was a royal hunting ground. It was also a popular place for outlaws and bandits to hide. In the 12th century, legend has it that a man named Robin Hood led a band of outlaws who lived in the forest. Robin Hood and his men were known for robbing from the rich and giving to the poor. They became folk heroes, and their stories have been told and retold for centuries - especially in our local schools!

Sherwood Forest still has lots to offer today with many attractions, including the Major Oak, an ancient oak tree that is said to have been Robin Hood's hideout.

Why not visit and see for yourself? You don’t have to wear tights, but ‘apparently’ it can be fun!? 😳🤣🤣

This is hands down the best Italian restaurant in the area! We really love it here! 🤤

A real family-run Italian serving absolutely delicious food made from the freshest ingredients and bags of flavour, we cannot recommend Bella Vita Ollerton enough! 🌟

The outdoor area is perfect for a pint and a pizza or bottle of prosecco and a plate of king prawns (our top choice 👌🏼🤤), and date nights and family dinners don't get much better than sitting around the table together feasting on delicious antipasti, linguini con vongole & gameroni, tagliata di filetto di manzo and sharing a bottle or two of the good stuff! 🍝🍤🥩🍷

Farmer experiences at ! 🐮🐷🧑‍🌾

Just a 15 minutes' drive from all of our village holiday homes, it’s such a fun and special thing to do!

Take a look behind the scenes and see what it's like to look after the animals at White Post Farm. Their special Farmer Experiences give you the chance to see how a real farm works and become a farmer for a few hours.

Things to know…

💰 Experience for one £85, for two £130, and for three people £175
📆 You need to book in advance and each experience is half a day long
👧👴 There’s no age limit - they can cater each experience to the individual, so whether you are 6 years old or 60 years old, there's something for everyone to enjoy.
👨‍🌾 You’ll be accompanied by a real farmer so can ask all the questions you want!
🧃 You’ll get drink and snacks at break time and even receive your own White Post Farm t-shirt.
