The crew of RNLI Cardigan Lifeboat were paged at 11.18 this morning in their first shout of the year.

A member of the public had called the UK Coastguard after becoming concerned for two paddleboarders to the south of Aberporth who didn't seem to be making progress against an outgoing tide.

Cardigan's Atlantic 85 launched with Simon at the helm and Leo, Andrew and Lewis as crew, and made best speed towards Aberporth.

In the meantime, the paddleboarders, who had managed to land themselves on an isolated beach, contacted Cardigan lifeboat station on their mobile phone. After establishing they were safe in their current location, the lifeboat station passed their contact details to the UK Coastguard operations team which was coordinating the incident.

Once on scene, the lifeboat crew quickly located the two paddleboarders and brought them, and their boards, onto the lifeboat. They were then taken to Aberporth's main beach, where members of HM Coastguard Cardigan were waiting to help them ashore and warm them up.

The lifeboat returned to the lifeboat station and was readied for service by 12.45.

It takes a team to launch a lifeboat so thank you to everyone involved in today's shout:

Notice to guests and local community, that the works on the culvert in Newport has started today. 🚘

In affect for 8 weeks until 28th February.

Please note that businesses are open as usual and there is a small diversion for vehicles under 3.5t. ⚠️

Some businesses have got winter opening times in place so it's best to check ahead of visiting.

The road to the car park and doctors is open as usual with the car park being free during winter. 😊

We're very excited for 2025, where we will welcome back familiar faces who have already booked their stay for this year, and we look forward to welcoming those that haven't been before too.

Of course we ended the day by indulging at Crwst Poppit, to replace the warmth and calories lost in a rather chilly sea.

Did you survive Storm Darragh? 💨🍃

It's been a wild weekend here on the North Pembrokeshire coast, with power only being restored late yesterday, since Saturday.

The one thing that cannot go unnoticed is the community spirit and hard work from local contractors to get houses and business's back up and running, so a big thanks to them.

The aftermath effects continue for some, but for now we are appreciating the fact we can get back to a bit of normality and appreciate views like this once again. 🌄

⚠️ ⚠️ A MET Office Amber warning for high winds remains in place until 9pm this evening, following which a Yellow warning will be in place overnight. ⚠️ ⚠️

The advice remains not to travel unless essential due to hazardous conditions and risk to life.

Avoid coastal locations and exposed areas. There will be large waves across the coast of Pembrokeshire with flood alerts in place and the risk of flying debris.
