Great news! As of today bus prices across Cornwall will be reduced by anything between 20-40% for adult passengers. With family day passes costing just £10, for any bus service/route across the county. Cornwall has been chosen for a £23.5 million government pilot scheme running for the next 4 years, to encourage more people to use the bus. Passengers can use the Go Cornwall Bus app to pay for tickets, plan journeys and get live updates on buses. This is a great initiative to get more of us travelling sustainably! https://www.gocornwallbus.co.uk/

Well here we are in 2022! Hoping it’s a great one for everyone. Thought you might like to see a few photos of a recent day out. We took the St. Mawes to Falmouth Ferry (20 mins) - dogs allowed! Then spent a few hours in Falmouth- firstly at the National Maritime Museum (fantastic place) then mooched around the shops. We stumbled across a new shop for dog owners called Southpaw- only opened 3 weeks ago, and bought our little man his own beach towel (he loves water but gets super cold after)!

A beautiful place for a local walk (with or without a 4 legged friend). Starting with your back to (well worth dropping in for their incredible cakes!), cross over the road diagonally and just as the road bends sharp right up the hill there is a footpath. This leads you up through the pretty woodland and then down across the stream. Keep following the path adjacent to the stream ( on your right) and you will end up at Pendower beach. A great little walk!

Another great place locally for walk and a coffee along with a bit of history is St. Mawes. The main road through the town is fairly flat so good for buggies and wheelchairs. Right at the end of town is St. Mawes Castle ( with some access restrictions) . In the car park here you get great views across the water to Falmouth and even better is a pit stop in the car park where Nigel and team provide fab coffee and bakes!

Thanks for the messages and posts telling me what you would like me to share with you. So I’m going to start with a series of 4 accessible walks that combine with somewhere to eat/ drink or grab a coffee. Walk 1. The clay trails https://claytrails.co.uk/ specifically the pentewan valley trail. Beautiful accessible route starting at http://www.pentewanvalleycyclehire.co.uk/ (where you can hire bikes- we did this last summer and had a great time! Parking in the village of Pentewan), where you can also grab a coffee at The Little Bay Cafe. Or alternatively drive to The Polgooth Inn (5 mins), a favourite of ours ( booking essential!!) https://www.polgoothinn.co.uk/ (well behaved dogs welcome )

Had a lovely Mother’s Day walk today near - can highly recommend when you visit. Park at Porth NT car park, along the coast path to St. Anthony’s head lighthouse and onto Place. Then you can either head back the way you came or do a full circular back to Porth NT. Beautiful beaches and pretty views across the water to Falmouth and St. Mawes. The best bit though is the tea and cake at Porth NT on your return! (Sorry we missed you today Seth, but the cinnamon buns were amazing!)

Just a quick update to say a huge thankyou to those of you who donated money or shared the message I posted to the Hidden Help new van crowdfunder- we exceeded our target and will be purchasing our new bigger van soon. This will enable us to help even more Cornish families in crises ❤️. Thankyou all!

We’ve been working hard in recent weeks, getting things ready for this years lovely guests. We have had 2 brand new showers installed on the ground floor (and hopefully 2 more to come in the next few weeks). We’ve replaced a few missing items, bought some new board games and toys and touched up the paintwork throughout. Soon we will be getting the ovens and carpets professionally cleaned and we are also very excited to announce that we are currently working on a brand new ‘snug/ tv’ room (formerly locked for storage), which we hope to have ready for guests by May 🤞- can’t promise as we are reliant on a few deliveries which have been delayed- but will reveal more details in the coming weeks!

Ok so bit of an unusual post from me today. As well as being the owner of The Old Coalyard, I am also involved with an incredible charity down here in Cornwall called Hidden Help (HH). HH collects unwanted household goods from people who no longer need them and gives them to those who are in crisis. All of the HH clients come to us via referral from social services and the various hostels and refuges in Cornwall. Sadly Cornwall is one of the most deprived counties in Europe. Recently we furnished an entire flat for a young pregnant woman who had fled her home for her own safety- she had nothing and no one to help her. In the days before her delivery we put carpets in, an entire nursery, furniture, white goods and essential baby gear as well as some nappies and toys. This is the kind of work HH does. It is run entirely by volunteers but we have a problem. The little HH van is just way too small for the number of deliveries we are needing to do - even more so now because of Covid. Recently we had to do 4 deliveries to one flat because the van is so small, which means there were others we couldn’t help. So we have set up an ambitious crowdfunder to raise the £10,000 we need for a larger van. If this story touches you in any way and feel you could help, we would be very grateful indeed! Sorry for the hugely long post today!! https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/hidden-help-delivery-van-appeal
