Based on the WingX BizAv Weekly Bulletin, the number of private jet flights globally in March 2023 was slightly lower than in March 2022. However, there was a small increase in private jet flights in some areas like Brazil. Despite this, the overall trend for the last four weeks was 7% lower than the same dates in 2022.

In North America, private jet traffic was 2% higher in Week 13 than Week 12, but 8% lower compared to the same dates last year. In Europe, there was a 1% increase in private jet flights in Week 13 compared to Week 12, but 4% fewer flights compared to the same period in 2022. Overall, private jet flights in Q1 2023 were down by 4% compared to Q1 2022, but there was a 77% increase in private jet flights compared to the same period in 2019.

In summary, while private jet traffic was down by 4% in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022, there was a 77% increase in private jet flights compared to 2019. The overall trend for the last four weeks was 7% lower than the same dates in 2022.

Bizjet demand is decreasing, particularly in charter, but remains higher than 2019, according to WingX Advance. The global trend for the last February is 4% below the same month in 2022.

In North America bizjet activity is 6% behind compared to February last year, 13% ahead of February 2019. And in Europe, the traffic is 9% below the same dates in 2022.

Year to date bizjet flights from Turkey are 43% above last year, 74% above the same period in 2019. Business jet’s immediate response to the Turkey – Syria earthquake has started to taper off, between February 1st – 27th bizjet activity was 71% ahead of last year, 116% ahead of 2019.

Business jet flights in Europe were down 7% in January compared to the same month last year, but up 6% compared to January 2019. France was the busiest market, however air traffic was down 3% from the previous year.

Activity trends in North America are uneven, with light jet charter slipping back. Although departures were down 6% from last year, Florida remained the busiest state. Demand in the other top states was varied, with Texas up 2%, California down 4%, and Colorado down 12% year on year.

Outside of North America and Europe, bizjet activity was trending 31% above January 2022, and 85% above 2019. Brazil was the busiest market for bizjets, with 20% more flights than last year, India was up by triple figures, Australia was up 22%. Activity out of China was up 29% compared to last year. Almost 80% of bizjet flights in China were domestic.

Even if the post-Covid surge in business aircraft flying activity began to slow down in the second part of 2022, it was still a record year according to WingX Advance. There were more than 5.5 million business aircraft flights last year, a 10% increase from the year before and a 53% increase above 2020 levels.

Last year, 600,000 business jet trips were operated in Europe, an increase of 10% from 2021. Teterboro Airport in New Jersey reclaimed its title as the busiest airport for business aviation. France, the UK, and Germany were the top three European markets for business aircraft in 2022. Business jet activity increased last year outside of North America and Europe by 20% over 2021.

Although December 2022 activity was down year-on-year, it was still the second-busiest December on record. Qatar recorded 400% year-on-year rise in traffic during the FIFA World Cup. In the United States, the decline from peak demand has been less severe, and the market should maintain higher-than-pre-pandemic activity in 2023.

▪️Regular operating hours are 08:00 LT - 22:00 LT, however, always verify with your FBO since this may vary.

▪️Pisa is a slot coordinated airport with limited capacity; it is best to request slots in advance and to keep in touch with your FBO to monitor the application. It is crucial during the high season! Global business jet activity increased by 16% in April compared to April 2019, and by 281% compared to April 2020, the pandemic's low point, according to WingX Advance Business Aviation Bulletin.

Last month business jet departures in Europe reached 60,000, up 35%, 293% and 16% compared to April 2021, 2020 and 2019 respectively. In North America, bizjet traffic was up 13% during the month, compared to April 2019, but slowed to 7% growth in the last week.

Outside these two regions, business jet activity was up 50%. India, Colombia, Philippines, Nigeria, and South Africa all had more than double the activity of April 2019. The three busiest airports were Sao Paolo, Melbourne, and Al Maktoum. The top international connections were between the US and Colombia, and Singapore and Indonesia. Business jet activity in China is declining due to lockdowns, with departures down by 65% compared to last year, down 58% versus April 2019. Hong Kong and Beijing have seen the biggest drops this month.

Pandemic brings new clients to business aviation. We have asked our partners and colleagues about what to pay special attention to while working with first-time passengers.

𝗕𝘂𝗱𝗴𝗲𝘁. Gather all the initial information about the request and provide the client with an estimated budget based on third-party resources or your personal experience. Be ready to dwell on the details of pricing in business aviation.

𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀. Don’t forget to explain the concept of empty legs and ask the client if they want to consider this option. Jet-sharing is another popular choice for those who want to experience business aviation for the first time.

𝗢𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿’𝘀 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗮𝗹. Another point worth clarifying is that managed aircraft require the owner’s approval before the contract is signed. Usually, it is merely a standard routine, but we have all encountered situations where an aircraft became unavailable at the last minute.

𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. Warn the client that there may be some restrictions at the airports. For example, not all operators fly to Albenga, permission in Pisa must be requested in advance, there may be problems with obtaining slots in Mykonos, or the airport in Cannes is weather-dependent.

𝗔𝗱𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀. We recommend following a good rule for winter flights: always notify the customer about the probability of the aircraft de-icing. Its cost might be up to €3.000, which the client usually pays after the trip. It sometimes happens on the ferry flights, so the pax isn't even aware of it. And it might take up to a month to receive the invoice.
