Connect with your soul; the essence of you, the seed from which you grow in every incarnation. Connect with spirit; the spirits of nature surround and guide us. By building these connections and tuning in to their guidance, we can bring balance to our physical, mental and spiritual well-being.
During this retreat we will interweave the two ancient philosophies and practices of yoga and shamanism, to create a unique atmosphere to honour and connect to the seen and unseen worlds. You will be guided in practices to transcend your body and mind to visit the hypnogogic state, the place of deeper understanding and where healing begins. Engaging in this stage of the brainwave cycle enables you to harness its power. And its power is plentiful!

That's a wrap for our yoga retreat! It was an amazing weekend and so much more than just yoga...
We were again blessed with a wonderful group of people who we loved showing round and spending time with. As well as a welcoming aromatherapy experience, yoga, intention setting, cacao ceremony, sound bath, delicious Ayurvedic food, Cornish pasties, and a firepit, everyone met the ponies and donkeys and helped feed and train them, petted chickens, learnt about hedgelaying, and made new friends.
Massive thanks to Lizzie from https://www.instagram.com/sensitiveskinsoap/ for the aromatherapy and Bre Chittenden for everything else.
We have two more yoga retreats this year: 11-13 October and 1-3 November, or you can build your own retreat with activities and dates to suit you - DM us or email [email protected] for more information
forgot Fathers Day? Adopt him a cheeky monkey to remind him of your charms 🤣
Looking for last minute Father's Day gifts? Then why not adopt a monkey! 🐵
Adopting a monkey is a gift with a difference. For just £3 a month or £36 a year, your adoption will not only help us to take care of your adopted monkey but it will also allow us to campaign against the UK primate pet trade, protect primates and their habitats worldwide, and to care for all of the rescued monkeys here at the Monkey Sanctuary.

We're VERY excited about this! We've been watching the restoration of Emily Hobhouse's family home (The story of Emily) for years and it's now we can finally go visit. It's less than 10 minutes from us so we're going to nip down there and check it out and then I'll let you know what we think. Apparently the craftsmanship is off the scale.
You can learn more about Emily here: https://www.theguardian.com/gnmeducationcentre/from-the-archive-blog/2019/jun/03/emily-hobhouse-and-the-boer-war
Our favourite place to visit - Wild Futures - is open for the summer. Check their days and times before you go to make sure it's not a monkey rest day x

Don't forget to come to this brilliant event in Tintagel this weekend!
from Olivia ❤️ it matches the case!😂
The lovely people at Vega Tintagel are celebrating on 5 May! join them for an Ecomarket, soundbath, and delicious curry!
Next Sunday, 5th May, marks an exciting occasion for Vega, a cherished cafe in Tintagel, as they celebrate their 7th year in business with a vibrant day of activities that blend community spirit with a dedication to sustainability. The event, titled "VEGA Celebration Day," is set to draw locals and....
It's Grand National day. Even the Daily Mirror is running stories about how cruel it is.
https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/dark-side-grand-national-cruel-32571812
But it's not just what's going on at Aintree today that makes horse sports such a welfare tragedy. They're the only animal entertainment in this country where you can publicly beat the animal and no one bats an eyelid. The people watching the Grand National this afternoon will be seeing animals literally being flogged to death for their entertainment.
And the problems with horse welfare aren't confined to horse racing, it's every time you see someone on a horse, from Pony Club and little horse riding schools, to showjumping at the Olympics.
We wrote an article for Vegan Food & Living last year, which outlines a lot of the issues inherent in traditional horse ownership but this is just the tip of the iceberg.
Please think twice about supporting the Grand National.
We're so pleased to be partnering with Lauralouiseyoga to host this one day yoga retreat!

This woodpecker is a regular visitor to our bird feeder and I was gutted when he flew head first into the window and knocked himself out. I thought he was a goner 😔 his neck was bent and his eyes were half closed.
After a couple of minutes he lifted his head and his eyes opened! He slowly straightened up and after hanging out with me for a bit he vibrated, then took off. Phew!

Wild Futures Monkey Sanctuary is hiring! You could work with monkeys! If full time monkey life doesn't suit you, you can do short term volunteering. Everyone we know who has done it, loved it.
We are hiring for a Long Term Primate Care Volunteer 🐵
A long term volunteer placement at Wild Futures enables individuals to gain valuable hands on experience caring for rescued primates at our sanctuary in Looe, Cornwall. Our placements run for twelve months and during this time you will be trained by experienced caregivers on how to look after a species of primate at our sanctuary. We currently have in our care capuchins, long tailed and Barbary macaques, marmosets and woolly monkeys. Aside from the primate care elements of the placement you will also get to contribute to the sanctuary on a wider scale learning about our campaign efforts, how to do basic maintenance for both our monkey territory and ground and gardens, participate in educational visits and support workshops for these, engaging with visitors to the site and learn to give informative public talks. We are looking for dedicated hard working individuals with a passion for animal welfare who are looking to kick start a career in primate conservation. Our long term volunteer placement is unfunded but we provide accommodation and basic food for the duration of the placement.
We have three long term placements starting in Spring 2024 🌸

Harvey admiring the sunset at our little piece of heaven. It's a consolation prize for all the rain 💦
We did it! Our first yoga retreat! And we were absolutely blessed to have the most amazing people for our first group. Everyone got on like old friends from the minute they met and created an incredible atmosphere of joy and gratitude 🥰
We were having too good a time to remember to take photos 🤣 so you'll just have to believe me when I say that in addition to yoga with there was an aromatherapy welcome, cacao ceremony, mindfulness, soundbath, donkey feeding, pony training, chicken cuddling, hedgelaying explanation, tons of food from , lots of laughter, some sunshine, quite a bit of rain, and a whole lot of love ❤🌳❤
We can't wait to see all these wonderful people again.
This is fantastic news! And just down the road from us! Also, I didn't know that absolute hero Lewis Pugh lives in Plymouth!!!!! Hopefully one day I'll bump into him when I'm swimming.
We made a dead hedge! We've been doing some hedge laying so I had some poles and brash, and a short area where I need to create a barrier.
I turned the poles into stakes by chopping one end into a point, then we use the maul to bash it in. We made two rows of poles then filled it with brash.
We'll keep adding to the centre as we go, and will replace the stakes when necessary.
As well as stopping the ponies from sliding down the slope, it's enrichment for them as they nibble on bits of Hazel and brambles.
Good morning from gorgeous rescue Dartmoor pony Grace.
Unridden, unbroken, trained purely with positive reinforcement, living on a track outdoors 24/7, no shoes, natural barefoot trimming, her mum for company, lots of visitors and enrichment, Grace has the best possible life I can give her.
We LOVE Wild Futures Monkey Sanctuary! The monkeys genuinely come first, with no exploitation for customer entertainment or profit. We've had lots of guests stay with us before or after volunteering at the Sanctuary and they all tell us what a great time they had and what wonderful friends they made.
If you want to get a real once-in-a-lifetime experience, consider volunteering here next summer!

⚠️ Volunteers needed! ⚠️
We are in desperate need of volunteers to help us onsite at our sanctuary in 2024! With accommodation provided, come and work in a beautiful location alongside a great team, and help provide the best possible care for our rescued monkeys 🐒
The role includes daily cleaning of monkey enclosures, tasks such as food preparation and making enrichment items, as well as re-roping enclosures, gardening, painting and cleaning 🐵
This is a great experience for students, those looking for a career in animal care, anyone interested in animal welfare, or simply those looking for a break from the 'norm' and to experience something special 💚
Days can be long and the work is often physically demanding, so volunteers must be fit and able. To find out more please email [email protected] 📧
Thank you ❤

On a foggy grey wet morning (hard to believe it’s August 😩) the best thing to do is brighten the day with some enrichment. We cut hazel, beech, and willow for the donkeys and ponies and hang it up or poke it in fences so they have to forage for it. It’s good to stimulate natural behaviour, it makes their day more interesting, provides variety in their diet, gets them moving in different ways, and makes for cute videos 😁 #donkey #donkeys #donkeysofinstagram #asmrsounds #vegancornwall #veganretreat #veganyoga #holiday2024
Wednesday. The middle child of the week. What you really need is a yawning donkey to get you through the day, and then it’ll be Thursday and that’s practically the weekend 💪👍 #donkey #rescuedonkey #humpday #fyp #donkeys #rescueanimals #veganretreat #veganyoga #vegancornwall #holiday2024
He hadn’t moved a muscle for about ten minutes 😂 so chilled 😎 #rescuedog #dogsofinstagram #dogoftheday #dogstagram #veganretreat #veganyoga #vegancornwall #holiday2024
It smells like a toilet but they love it 😳. #chickens #backyardchickens #rescuechickens #chickensofinstagram #veganretreat #veganyoga #vegancornwall #holiday2024
I used to get terrible Sunday night blues. When I was at school the “That’s Life!” music filled me with dread because I knew I had to go to bed afterwards and that just brought Monday closer. When I worked, I would go with a friend to the cinema on Sunday evenings so we could forget Monday was coming. I don’t get Sunday night blues any more. But even though the weekend is really the same as every other day- the animals still need feeding and mucking out - Sunday still has a different vibe. It suits a gentle stroll down a green lane with my best boys ❤️ If you get Sunday night blues, I sympathise and hope it changes soon 🥰 #rescuedog #rescuecat #sunday #sundayblues #thistooshallpass #veganretreat #vegancornwall #holiday2024
Just birdsong and rustling grass… perfect. #dogoftheday #dogsofinstagram #dog #rescuedog #veganretreat #vegancornwall #holiday2024 #asmr
How cute is that bunny!!!!!! There are loads of baby bunnies around at the moment and they’re quite bold. The donkeys keep foxes away and the track system provides long grass cover in the middle so we quite often see the rabbits hanging out in the paddocks. This is the first rabbit binky caught on camera though 🥳 #bunny #rabbit #springwatch #vegancornwall #veganretreat #holiday2024
I mean, I love him, and the crowing adds atmosphere, but there’s not much going on in his pretty little head 😄 and the girls take ZERO notice of him. But Bob the rescued polish frizzell bantam cockerel is kind with them and he lets them know when there’s something tasty on offer so I’ll forgive the stealth attacks and yelling ❤️ #rooster #bantam #vegancornwall #veganretreat #holiday2024 #rescue
We’re pretty sure the roe deer sleep in our meadows in the long grass, and although solitary, we see up to 3 at a time. They’re very wary but we see them a lot, particularly on our hill, Carey’s, in the morning or at dusk. Roe deer are quite common but they’re still special. Did you know Bambi is a roe deer?! #ukwildlife #britishwildlife #everyoneneedsnature #veganretreat #vegancornwall #holiday2024 #rescueanimals
The freshwater habitat pond was one of the first things we did (with help from @happyhabitats ) and it immediately attracted dragonflies and damselflies. It’s still settling down and sorting out its ecosystem but we’re getting more and more wildlife attracted to it. And we still get excited when we see tadpoles 🥳😁 #pond #springwatch #spring #ukwildlife #veganretreats #vegancornwall #veganholiday #holiday2024 #rescue
The donkeys Woody, Zippy, and Coco don’t get tons of hay, their diet is mostly barley straw. They mostly get it as a treat when we’re doing hooves or seeing the vet, and some is mixed in with their straw. But it’s also nice for them to have it in a different way that mimics natural foraging behaviour. This video is heavily filtered😂 the weather has gone awful again and natural light is a bit lacking! #donkey #rescuedonkey #donkeyrescue #veganretreat #vegancornwall #holiday2024 #holidaycottage
Thanks for that Bob. I have no idea why no one wants cockerels, they're an absolute delight 🐓 #rescuerooster #chickenoftheday #veganyoga #veganretreat #vegancornwall #holiday2024
Grace the rescued Dartmoor pony is super smart. Using positive reinforcement we've created behaviours that help us take good care of her. Collaborative care is a lot less stress for her and us so although it takes a bit more time to get things done than if she was headcollared, cross tied and forced, we think it's totally worth it 🥰 The "treats" we use are just compressed hay pellets. No sugar, no molasses, no fruit, just something different to her ad lib diet. #rescuepony #positivereinforcementtraining #dartmoorpony #veganyoga #vegancornwall #veganretreat #veganlife
It's not usually this quiet! The chickens are usually making a racket, one of the donkeys is usually yelling at me, and Harvey is normally rummaging in something. I'm going to assume it means everyone has everything they need and I can go and have a cup of tea 😁 #rescueanimals #fyp #veganyoga #veganretreat #vegancornwall
Turn up the volume for birdsong and Grace's gentle gulping ❤ #fyp #rescuepony #dartmoorpony #vegancornwall #veganretreat
Oh Coco! He so often has his head down and you can't see his beautiful soft eyes 😍 He's such a sweet natured donkey, he just needs plenty of time to be sure you're not a vet or a farrier 😄 #rescuedonkey #donkeyears #donkeysofinstagram #pilatesretreats #Cornwall #holidaycottage #holiday2024 #countryside #slowliving #vegancornwall #veganholiday #everyoneneedsnature #staycation #veganliving #veganlife #veganfarm #friendsnotfood
