Rescued animals, wellness retreats, holiday cottage

You may recall from earlier Buddy the pig videos that this was a beautiful grassy paddock. Yeah that didn’t last very long. We knew this would happen but had hoped it wouldn’t be so quick. Fools! 😂

The plan is to bisect the paddock so we can rotate him but our fencer has been delayed and anyway we needed Buddy to have a dry area, so we pressed ahead with slabs. We’ve used them before and they’ve been brilliant for the horses and donkeys.

Buddy will no doubt get mud on them but we can kick that off. And in time grass will grow through them which will make them more stable and will stay a bit green.

We couldn’t do this for Buddy without our amazing guests staying in the cottage or coming to one of our retreats. All the profits go to supporting the animals in our care so THANK YOU 🙏 to everyone who has ever stayed here. ###

Ps. Buddy goes into a nice warm large dry stable at night so he’s not always out here.

This weather is an absolute gift! I’d be happy with this in July, never mind January!

Everyone is hanging out outside enjoying the sunshine (while I’m inside working but never mind) and soaking up the warmth while the ground gets a much needed chance to dry out a bit.

We won a prize!!! We won a bag of .horsefeed minted meadow nuts with orange peel (it was a prize draw, I didn’t have to write a poem or anything).

I thought I’d better check everyone likes them before putting a handful in the food I use as a reinforcer in our positive training sessions. The response was very enthusiastic! Not surprising as they never get a treat randomly out of the blue, it’s only ever as part of positive reinforcement training, and their reinforcer is very low value meadow nuts, so I’ll use this sparingly, just adding a handful here and there to change it up a little.

Also, it’s a LOVELY day here today ☀️☀️☀️

Also also, I didn’t realise my hat made me look like a torpedo.

So much more than Christmas 🎄

We got really lucky with our amazing guests who threw themselves into 💩picking and mucking out the donkeys, and were fantastic company over the whole celebration.

We started with Christmas carols and then there were misty demonstrations of positive reinforcement training with the ponies, guidance on how to body condition score donkeys and an explanation of the importance of donkey hoof care, meeting the chickens, a walk on the beach (no one wanted to swim with me, what a shock) and cosy evenings in with Harvey and LOTS of delicious vegan food.

We absolutely loved it and we’ll definitely do it again.

So that was Christmas! And, as a very wise man (Noddy Holder 😂) has said every year since 1973, “look to the future now, it’s only just begun”.

As well as having a private holiday in our beautiful cottage, you can also join us for one of our amazing weekend retreats.

All the profits from cottage stays and retreats go to supporting the rescue animals in our care, so as well as having a wonderful holiday, you're also doing something amazing for the donkeys, ponies, chickens, and Buddy the pig.

All the retreats include meals, a chance to meet the animals and see how we use positive reinforcement to look after them using, and a guided walk learning about land regeneration projects. Residential retreats include shared accommodation in Apple Store Cottage.

What better way to celebrate Veganuary than by supporting rescued animals while having a fantastic weekend in Cornwall!

All the profits from our retreats and cottage stays go to support the animals in our care and you'll have plenty of time to meet our rescue pig, donkeys, ponies, and chickens. You'll see how we look after them and we'll demonstrate positive reinforcement training techniques.

You'll also go on a guided walk and learn about land regeneration projects.

And of course there will be delicious vegan food throughout!

Decorated the tree in Apple Store Cottage for our vegan Christmas with the animals holiday! Is it too early? 🤔 I’m excited!!!

We still have a couple of places left so if you can’t face being asked where you get your protein from, or you want to do something different this year, have a look at the pinned post and DM me to book. 🥰

The tree is made of driftwood by a friend of ours, he saves it from being dredged up at Devonport and dumped ❤️🎄❤️

Not Santa, storm Darragh 😂 we spent yesterday battening down the chicken run with new siding in preparation. So far so good this morning but apparently the worst of it will be around lunch time with gusts of up to 70mph 😮

We’ll be keeping an eye on the animals, fences, and trees all day 👍

Although we do our own hedgelaying, proper tree surgery is one of those jobs we know you need an expert for. Nigel and his team, Selina, Annabelle, and Libby, did a fantastic job with some trees that were no longer safe. And in the nick of time too given we have 50 mph winds this weekend 💨😮

Winter is coming…

Frost in the meadows this morning. I don’t think I’ve ever seen dandelion clocks in November before. 🤔 Beautiful sunny days at the moment so we’re getting a lot done in the garden and the animals are LOVING it 🥰
