This Whistling Green-Pigeon
(Treron formosae) was being attacked by a pair of Osprey or buzzards.
She was still being attacked while motionless in the water and seemed content to be in my company and ride on and in the kayak for the rest of a mangrove tour.
With deep cuts to her neck and a broken beak, the vet was not sure if she'll survive.

Easy camp near home, the ocean is super calm in Motobu, Okinawa, on the north shore.

It looks like rainy season will finally catch up with us next week, keeping things warm and muggy, and when that ends it'll be steamy hot until September.

Solo kayak camping in Kunigami, Okinawa.

This touring kayak model is an Amatak made by Norlite in Hokkaido, it's on the small side but I successfully packed for one night, happily squeezing in a couple of hours of dry fire wood 😁

I launched from the small town of Ada in the north east of Okinawa, a short paddle to an inaccessible beach.
Always cautious of the east coast as it faces the Pacific ocean, often having a surprisingly big swell.

The conditions on both sides of the the cape at Zanpa, Okinawa were quite calm, however, the waves were bouncing off the wall at the cape creating a very turbulent area, we were bouncing all over the place 😃. Great fun but there wasn't much brain space for enjoying the view at times.

Interesting it was this day I choose to forget the gopro and take the long lense. Pleased to say it stayed dry and I managed some decent shots.

Awesome afternoon on the east coast of Okinawa today.

Will knocked out 2 successful rolls on both sides first time.

There was one exciting moment where we got caught out by a few big waves (we were tempting fate by paddling in the surf zone!), Will ended up swimming and his kayak managed to break the camera off my kayak during retrieval. Lesson's learnt and fun had!

Training day.

The typhoon left a couple of days ago, leaving some bumpy conditions and a decent swell.

There is a nice break in the reef on the East side of Kouri island, Okinawa. With the swell coming from the west it was possible to get out past the drop off with out any problem, the crashing waves on either side a constant reminder of where not to go.
