So I have been a bit quiet on here recently, but trust me there has been a lot going on in the background 😁

I have managed to squeeze in trips to Madeira and Italy, staying just after the New Year in a town outside of Pisa called Lucca. For those of you that know me well, yes I did book to go and complete a park run 🏃‍♀️💨 😂

I also have a trip imminently coming up to Iceland, the land of ice 🥶 and fire 🔥 which I am very excited about!

I have booked trips for guests to Thailand to see the Elephants 🐘, Maldives to experience EVERYTHING that the Maldives has to offer 🐬🐟🦈🏝☀️, Vietnam, Madeira and more.

🐘 Sri Lanka 🐘

Apologies for the delayed post but it has been a busy couple of weeks since our return!

As you know we recently stayed for four nights in Sri Lanka, staying in the Western Province town of Aluthgama at the NH Centara Ceysands Resort. This hotel is 4⭐️ and situated on the Bentota River peninsula and only accessible via a small boat ride.

Due to the short period of time we were there we planned our days booking two tours with Dimtourssrilanka. Dim looked after us amazingly 🤩🤩 taking us to Yala National Park - Sri Lanka where we went on a safari. This was an amazing adventure. Here we had the ride of our life in our safari jeep, driven by our guide, who managed to get us within yards of a wild leopard. The park is home to approx 60 leopards, and also has resident bears, elephants, wild boar, mongoose, buffalo and lots more! A great trip if you are visiting 👍

Our second tour was to visit, and climb, the magnificent landmark that is known locally as Sigiriya Rock, or Lion Rock. The site historically had a Kings palace built on the top of it, (where the remains can still be found), along with the most spectacular views for miles. We combined this with visiting Dambulla Cave Temple, a historical Buddhist site, again built 180m high, so with amazing views.

Sri Lanka is an amazingly green country. The population is made up of 70% buddhists, which leads to a friendly and warm welcome wherever you go. There is so much more to see and do in Sri Lanka, and a trip with interests for everyone, young and old. The old tea-train line tour, the festivals at Kandy, Adams Peak for the hikers, sea turtles, tuk-tuk tours.... are just a few.

With visas being free for UK residents from 1st October there has never been a better time to visit.

My top tips:-

- Take lots of small denomination notes for tips, wages are low and prices are cheap so small tips wherever you go are very much appreciated
- Plan any trips you want to do before you travel, if you are on a time frame this is essential so that you include the things that are at the top of your list
- Check the season when you travel, whilst it is always warm in Sri-Lanka, some times of the year are drier than others!
- Travel after 1st October 2024 when visas are free!

🏖Maldives🏖

So we recently visited the Maldives, staying for 5x nights at Oblu Xperience Ailafushi. Whilst August is technically out of season for the Maldives, the hotel was full to capacity with families, couples and friends hoping for sunshine 😎, with the best months to travel being November to April.

It is fair to say we had some rain! However this did not deter us from swimming in the sea, and getting out on the beach at every opportunity that the rain stopped.

We stayed in an overwater bungalow, which the Maldives is renowned for. This did not disappoint, and being able to just jump in from your balcony was a highlight for me 😁 (see the videos in the comments).

Our resort was lively at night, and relaxing during the day. The staff were friendly and worked hard to ensure everything was perfect 👌

My Top Tips

- You must register for a visa, 96hrs prior to arrival and departure. These are completed online and are free, details below 👇
- Alcohol is not permitted to be taken into the Maldives, so dont buy any duty free on your way! 🍻
- USD is the accepted currency, albeit most islands are cashless and payments are charged to your rooms and can be paid by card on departure. 💵
- if arriving on a flight that is taking passengers onwards, please ensure you take your boarding card with you to immigration otherwise you may be refused entry until they can verify you have left the plane at the correct resort 🛬
- check your luggage allowance on your Maldives transfer as often these are only 20kg as opposed to the 30kg flight allowance 👜

Overall, the Maldives was a win for me, and definitely somewhere I would travel to again 👍👍👍👍👍
