On 11th. February 1858, 167 years ago today, 14-year-old Bernadette Soubirous went to the Grotto of Massabielle to gather firewood with her sister Toinette, and their friend Jeanne Abadie. The fire in the Cachot, the Soubirous’ family home, had gone out and they were so poor, they had sold their last piece of wood to buy food. While taking off her shoes to cross the stream, Bernadette heard the rustling of leaves, and noticed a bright light in the niche of the rock. Upon closer inspection, Bernadette saw a young lady dressed in white, with a blue sash around her waist, and golden roses on her feet. The lady prayed the Rosary with the frightened Bernadette, and then disappeared. The lady didn’t reveal her identity until the 16th Apparition, on 25th. March, when she proclaimed: “I am the Immaculate Conception”.

In 1992, Saint John Paul II declared 11th. February, World Day of the Sick.

In Lourdes today, we at Tangney Tours remember all our cherished pilgrims, and in particular those who are experiencing health challenges at the moment. We remember also all of those who care for the sick.

The 27th of January 2025 will mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the German N**i concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz.

In the lead-up to this, some of the team from Tangney Tours are in Poland, and this morning were able to visit both the site of Auschwitz and Birkenau.

It is one of the most moving places on Earth.

🙌🙏🏻A newly declared miracle in Lourdes (the 71st!). And there’s a British connection 🙏🏻🙌

Some fantastic news from Lourdes on this Feast of the Immaculate Conception.
The cure of a British man, John Traynor, has been proclaimed as the 71st. miracle of Lourdes!
John Traynor was born in Liverpool! 🙏🏻🙏🏻 John came to Lourdes as an injured pilgrim on Liverpool’s 1st Archddiocesan Pilgrimage in 1923, and was cured following a visit to the Baths and his participation in the Blessed Sacrament Procession. His cure was proclaimed a miracle today- 101 years later.

Today, we celebrate the Feast of the Nativity of Mary.
We also celebrate the great news that the Grotto is accessible again, and that the Underground Basilica of St. Pius X was not affected by yesterday’s flood.

The Gave is subsiding, Msgr. Jean-Marc Micas, Bishop of Lourdes has visited the Grotto, the cleanup around the Grotto is well underway, and the Sanctuary remains open. The Grotto should be accessible very soon 🙏🏻.
