Escape this Christmas to the Seychelles

Once frequented only by turtles, this tiny island has been transformed into an indulgent Robinson Crusoe escape

Walk along the beach in the morning and the only footsteps to walk in are the tracks of crabs and turtles.

130km south of Mahé, this remote coral island is surrounded by its own lagoon, with nothing in sight but sparkling ocean and azure skies.

Santorini is a very special Island and one I keep returning to.

The views are mesmerising and the quality and choice of hotels outstanding.

This past week I have visited 5 hotels and every single one has been incredibly special, ranging from atmospheric with unique cave rooms, to modern and spacious, resort-style hotels, but they all had one thing in common: location, location, location.

I have hiked the Caldera, sailed on a Catamaran, eaten at the most beautiful restaurants, experienced a wine tasting, explored Santorini’s own Pompei - Akrotiri, and enjoyed a day at a beach club.

There is so much to see and do, I cannot recommend this island highly enough

7 things you should know before booking your trip to Santorini

Next week I’ll be traveling to my favourite Greek island.

Through numerous visits I have learnt a few tips.

It’s an island of 2 halves. One half has unforgettable sunset views and the other half has forgettable “I could be anywhere” views Don’t make a mistake and be disappointed . If you want the classic Santorini experience, book a Caldera view hotel in Fira (Thira), Imerivogli or Oia

To avoid the selfie sunset crowd, book a sunset view room, and with a glass of bubbles, smugly watch the sun dip down into the caldera, from the peace and quiet of your private terrace

Santorini is amazing but completely overcrowded in July and August. To have a more private experience book May or October, you won’t regret it

4-5 nights is the perfect length of stay for Santorini.

Take a private guided hike from Thira to Oia with a volcanologist. The views are amazing and what you learn on your walk to lunch is unforgettable.

A private boat trip around the island, stopping in at the centre of the volcano to take a close up look, plus dropping anchor to swim in the crystal clear waters is a must, before sipping champagne and tasting canapés while taking in the view.

Wine tasting is a surprising option - the vines produce amazing local wines due to the volcanic soil.

I will be visiting quite a few amazing luxury hotels and exploring the island further, to share more insights.

Put this island on your list. It is truly a remarkable island to visit.
