Renovation highlights from our long awaited Norfolk family home Meadow View.

WHICH IS YOUR FAVOURITE ➡️?

Whilst I love seeing the roses in June and that creeper in October, our new (relatively) naked February frontage feels like a bit of a milestone in our ownership of Meadow View. If you’ve been following my stories you’ll know we’ve had the wisteria renovated and all our climbers tamed (thank you ). We’ve not gone mad but having here nearly a year and by and large having let the garden do its own thing, we have a bit more of an idea what we can manage. So it’s time to start making our mark, albeit with baby steps.

Anyone else looking forward to getting out in the garden a bit more? I can’t wait to see what the next few months hold….

CURTAIN CLOSE-UPS ➡️ Lots of love in stories yesterday for the new curtains in the dining room and snug so here’s a bit of a photo dump of all the details with some tips if you find yourself having to choose curtains any time soon:

- I chose the same fabric for both the dining room and snug as they’re neighbouring rooms facing the front of the house, it helps tie the two different spaces together.
- however I went for different headers to create different feels: cottage pleat for the dining room and flop over frill for the cosy snug (lots of love for the flop!) - I went for single curtains to minimise the amount of light being blocked by the curtains themselves when open
- my favourite feature though is that I’ve lined the inside with patterned fabric so that you can appreciate a gorgeous pattern from the outside looking in too. More of a consideration for curtains at the front of a house, and granted it was an indulgence. I love the hints you get of that reverse pattern from the inside too.

PLANS FOR 2025 MEADOW VIEW…

A series of very instagram unworthy pics showing all our bad bits! We did a lot of decorating in 2024 but 2025 will be the year we tackle a couple of smaller building-type projects as we attempt to create a working family bathroom and fix a couple of issues we’ve been grappling with. I’m also getting very itchy feet to Lois-ify the kitchen which is perfectly lovely but needs personalising and tweaking to work better for our own family’s needs.

First up however is some serious renovation to our wisteria in a few weeks. It needs to be done before it gets too out of control but I can’t deny I’m nervous!

Two more weeks of January to slow first, however.

OUR RELOCATION STORY … it took 2.5 years but 2024 was the year we moved into what we hope will be our “forever” home in Norfolk: Meadow View. There is no doubt that buying Crown Cottage Norfolk in May 2019 was life changing for our family in ways we hadn’t expected. She was bought as somewhere to escape to thinking we would never leave London, but then Covid hit and everything changed and the pull of Norfolk became too strong and before you know it we are plotting our relocation. There have at times been many of you here thinking about doing the same. Are you still here? How has it been? It’s not always been easy for us - you’ve rightfully been spared some pretty low lows, but we are now very much enjoying making Meadow View our home whilst continuing to share the joys of this county with you. And who knows, hopefully some of you will cone and see it for yourself with a stay at Crown Cottage Norfolk. With my January offer live in a couple of days i’ll be doing my best to tempt you! Xx

A CONFESSION: we escaped for a few days to go somewhere magical. I’ll share more soon (though the final pic will give you a clue!). I snapped this imperfect photo of Meadow View in the early hours as we were leaving a few days ago, and couldn’t resist capturing the sunrise as we drove to the airport. I did wonder why we were leaving Norfolk at all for a moment! It’s been more than we could have hoped for and we now can’t wait to be home later this morning for the final bits of prep for our first Christmas here.

CHRISTMASES PAST AT CROWN COTTAGE, and 15% off Christmas week!

A look back at Christmases through the years at Crown Cottage. It’s been a while since the cottage has featured on the grid: It’s such a huge part of our Norfolk journey and looking back at Christmases there always gives me pause for thought and brings back the happiest of memories.

Crown Cottage is without doubt the most special of places. Those who’ve stayed get it: they return, we become (insta!) friends and we share a love for this special place. Think I’m over-egging it? Perhaps come and see for yourself. I guarantee your shoulders will drop as soon as you walk through the door.

LIFE, LATELY….

Consisting mostly of wreaths, moss, ribbon and Christmas trees, with the occasional moment to stop and stare at the sky, and the odd leaky roof and a bit of scaffolding thrown in for good measure…

The December juggle continues, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. How about you?

HAVE YOU WOKEN UP TO SNOW? It seems lots of you have which always takes me back to these scenes at Crown Cottage Norfolk a few years ago. I’m always hopeful winter guests get to see a gentle covering (nothing too disruptive!). We’ve some frosts forecast later in the week, so I better make sure the log store is well stacked for guests!

Tell me, do you have any snow? I’m here for the pretty pics if so!

WHICH IS YOUR FAVOURITE SO FAR? It may be a while before we have any more 🤣….

1. The recently painted snug had an overhaul in August during a heatwave (I’ll never forget it) in a selection of paint colours
2. My son got lucky with his room being redecorated before we moved in - love this wallpaper which we hope is future proofed!
3. The children’s bedroom had a very quick paint job and floor sand by yours truly again - a lovely quick freshen up
4. The dining room - you’ll have heard enough about that of late!
5. My daughter’s room - probably the most challenging room for a lot of reasons - mostly the wonky walls and floor - but a triumph with this wallpaper. We’ve made a few tweaks to this lately I’ll share soon.

Time for a rest (who am I kidding?!)

DINING ROOM STILLS FOR ZOOMING/DETAILS FOR SAVING

Thank you so much for all the love ♥️ for the Meadow View dining room. I’m sharing a few stills for you, together with paint colour and finish info for you to save and refer to. I’ll add it to highlights along with my stories from today in which I’ve talked about why I’ve chosen particular paint finishes. I hope this is useful and, as ever, any questions let me know xx

1. View of the living room from our hallway. The ceiling has been painted in Lady Char’s lilac (architect’s Matt for the ceiling and architects eggshell for the coving to add some subtle contrast)
2. The view from the dining table to the east, window painted in ’s Grenache in architect’s gloss for real drama.
3. View from the dining room through to the the snug, showing the Albion wallpaper in Mauve.
4. The cleaned up original lock (thank you ) against Grenache in eggshell for the skirting and door trims.
5. Decisions to be made about whether we have a mirror or a painting above the fireplace? What do you think?
6. Back to where we started, choosing the colour scheme… i didn’t dream it would turn out as good as this!

A WEEKEND OF pink sunrises, blue skies, warm wine-infused evenings and (lots of lots) of paint samples. Norfolk you are SO beautiful at this time of year.

A busy week incoming: finalising colours for the dining room redecoration, dates for Christmas wreathmaking classes and putting together the Curated by Lois Christmas collection. Always grateful for your support and I promise lots of exciting things coming your way xx
