I just received the heartbreaking news that a lovely colleague of mine, Jen, very sadly passed away this weekend.
She had been courageously fighting cancer for the last 18 months.
For those of you who knew her, you’ll know that Jen was an absolutely incredible person.

Jen was such a great support to me when I started as a Travel Counsellor.
Her knowledge of South Africa was truly amazing, and I would often check in with her, not just because I learned so much with her and she was a role model to me, but also to see how she was doing. My thoughts are with Jen's daughter and family during this difficult time.

This is a reminder to make every day count.

⭐ 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗜 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗢𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘁⭐️

We had the privilege of staying at the gorgeous Schoone Oordt in Swellendam this past October. Swellendam is the third-oldest town in South Africa, and it’s such a charming little place! With over 50 provincial heritage sites, most of which are Cape Dutch buildings, it’s a town rich in history.

From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the owner, Alison, who greeted us with a refreshing welcome drink and homemade scones.

The family suite at Schoone Oordt was spacious, bright, and perfect for us. It featured a large, airy open-plan bedroom/lounge for the parents, complete with an extended-length king bed, and a separate bedroom with two double bunk beds for the kids. But that’s not all—the kids room had books, board games, toys waiting for them & the suite also had a beautiful outside patio that overlooked the lush gardens and pool.

The personal & thoughtful little touches truly made us feel at home. From the hot water bottles tucked under our duvets during turndown service (just after a delightful dinner) to the complimentary car wash during breakfast, every detail was impeccable.

Now, let me talk about the breakfast—hands down, the best hotel breakfast I’ve ever had. Breakfast here is a three-course feast, all homemade. The granola was delicious, but I can’t even begin to describe how incredible the vanilla poached pears were!

As if that wasn’t enough, the lovely Steffanie packed us homemade scones to take along on our road trip back to Cape Town. Check-out was the hardest part, but it wasn’t a goodbye—it was more of a “see you now now!”

What an amazing hotel and town!
