A wonderful day for Highland Quest, exploring the Cairngorms, Speyside and the Moray coast with a lovely German family who are also staying with us.

Places we visited were The Highland Folk Museum at Newtonmore, we passed on the Cairngorm Brewery on request. Next was Glenlivet Distillery where mum and dad sampled 6 (six) whiskies. Then followed a drive to Lossiemouth for ice cream on a Scottish beach, then Burghead, Sueno’s Stone and finally a stroll around Brodie Castle.

Coming to the end of a busy old week. A tour to Skye with a lovely family from the US. We managed to avoid the hordes by avoiding the over subscribed locations and concentrating on Glenelg Ferry, lunch in Uig, Fairy Glen and Dunvegan Castle. We managed a quick stop at Eilean Donan on our way back and made the day a circular one by returning via Strathcarron and Achnasheen.

Friday saw me taking an American couple from Inverness to Edinburgh. Just a basic transfer, my first. I picked this up thanks to fellow SITOA member.

The week was rounded off with a Speyside Whisky Tour taking in Tomatin, Glenfarclas, Aberlour for lunch, Glenallachie and Glenlivet.

Coming to the end of an amazing day with Paul and his son Joel from Perth, WA. This was a late booking for a Speyside whisky tour. We’re taking in five distilleries, 4 in Speyside - Glenallachie, Glenfarclas, Cardhu and Glen Moray after starting the day at Tomatin which is classed as Highland. Just the one formal tour, at Glenallachie where we actually got to see the legendary Billy Walker. There has been wonderful generosity at the other distilleries where they’ve been happy to offer free drams for the non drivers. Cardhu has a fully licensed bar.

A rather ad hoc tour today. The morning spent at the Black Isle Brewery, then on to Cromarty for some peace and quiet. Lunch at Beauly and finishing things off with a tour of the Singleton of Glen Ord Distillery.

A nice quick video of Friday’s Jacobite Express at Glenfinnan on its way back to Fort William. A nice way to end the week spent with a couple of American clients. We managed to take in Culloden, Clava Cairns, Loch Ness, The Falls of Foyers, Balmoral Castle, Royal Lochnagar Distillery, Braemar, Inverewe Gardens, 2 days on the Isle of Skye, Glenfinnan, Arisaig, the Jacobite Express before being dropped off at their hotel in Oban.

A while back an American guest and his wife booked my Loch Ness, Beauly, Glen Ord Distillery & the Black Isle tour with a special request that we see the submarine that was used to research where the Loch Ness monster resides. I’d never heard of this, the submarine, not Nessie, so I did a little research and found out the submarine was spending its well earned retirement in the grounds of the Drumnadrochit Loch Ness Exhibition Centre. On a subsequent tour I was able to confirm this and passed on the info to my American guest. In the weeks leading up to the tour, Glen Ord Distillery decided to close till mid-July, the tides were such that it wasn’t practical to look for dolphins on the Black Isle. The itinerary would need a lot of tinkering. After consulting with the guest we cobbled something a decent itinerary together. The only casualty was a visit to a distillery.

We drove along the A82 through Drumnadrochit to Urquhart Castle and spent time there and at the exhibition centre where the guest saw the submarine, which was built/funded by his company back in Chicago. He was so happy to see this rather tired yellow object, it made my day. We headed back to Inverness and grabbed a Tesco meal deal packed lunch and headed to Culloden Battlefield and then onto Clava Cairns. As a little extra to wind up the day I took the guests to at Fort George/Ardersier and we had a brief walk along the shoreline. As we’d missed out on a distillery tour, we returned to Strathallan and we sampled a dram or two of Balvenie. A pleasant day, spent in equally pleasant company.

Fast forward a few days and I received this lovely review which makes doing this so worthwhile. Thanks Nick & Yuhwen!

*Fantastic!*

+ The Strathallan was conveniently located in Inverness. The hosts were wonderful and gave us many good tips for our journey. The breakfast was substantial, cooked to order, and delicious. We had booked a tour with them also. Our host was able to accommodate my request to visit particular sites that are not commonly requested. Our host personally escorted us to all the sites I wanted to see. He was informative, pleasantly conversational, and very pleasant company. We will definitely stay at the Strathallan when we return to Inverness!

- Nothing. Our visit to Inverness exceeded all of our expectations. I would highly recommend booking a tour with Strathallan rather than going with any of the larger tour companies. We had a personalized private tour that allowed us to enjoy the sites at our leisure.

HIGHLAND QUEST TOUR with Kieron Perry of Strathallan B&B , Inverness.

THE RIVER SPEY.
The River Spey is of course famous for the distillation of Single Malt Whisky. It is also stunningly beautiful as it flows through the Cairngorm mountains down to the Moray Firth. It was that beauty I wanted to see and explore. And it was an exploration that Kieron provided. Not for him the set routine with information regurgitated as by rote. His impeccable driving and gentle commentary took us on a winding route through Speybridge to the Highland Folk Centre for a mid-morning break. Then it was on to whisky country, past the , to and the quirky Gather’n Café and its interesting mix of wools and macaroni cheese, to name but one substantial dish on offer. Finally we drove through Rothes and Mosstodloch to Spey Bay with its famous old Ice House and its Dolphin Centre.

I had always dreamt of viewing the length of the Spey. This Highland Quest made dream come to life.
