Stoke on Trent has 47 remaining bottle kilns all of which are listed buildings. As many are situated on canals for ease of transport, a little wander along the 'cut' can reveal these historic beauties.

Take a visit to Middleport Pottery where you can enjoy a wander around the historical site, enjoy a cuppa in the cafe, and take a short walk along the canal to Westport Lake.

This one at Price & Kensington in Longport is one of the earliest surviving examples of fire-proofed building construction in the pottery industry and is a freestanding, updraught, hovel oven.

☔ It's raining, it's pouring 🎶

There are lots of things to do locally if there's wet weather during your stay at Spring Cottage.

If you fancy a fun swim and whizzing down the slides, Splashlandings Alton Towers is a 40 minute drive away and Waterworld is closer still being at the local Festival Park.

We have 3 cinemas within a short drive showing the latest films Cineworld Stoke-on-Trent Vue in Newcastle under Lyme and Odeon Festival Park.

You could of course just cosy up by one of our log fires and relax.

Enjoying a beautiful morning at Trentham Gardens, with the youngest of our family, as volunteers for Trentham Gardens parkrun.

There are a few parkruns which are only a short drive away from Spring Cottage if you still like to do your weekly 5k whilst you're away.

National Hanging Out Day!

Dreaming of getting into a bed of line dried sheets again. April showers are definitely getting in the way of that at the mo!

We much prefer to line dry out washing for our guests, so that they have that fresh smell and feel and it's so much better for the environment of course.

While it's raining outside we'll hang out with our friends inside instead 👫

Save the dates! 2 and 3 December. I'll be in Burslem with my photographic exhibition "FORTYSEVEN: The Last Bottle Ovens and Kilns of The Potteries."
I'll be at Barewall Art Gallery on the 2nd and at Middleport Pottery on the 3rd with the exhibition returning for one day only back into Middleport's bottle oven. Come and say hi at Barewall or at Emma Bailey Ceramics studio in Middleport.
There'll be Christmas gifts available for all the bottle oven connoisseurs out there! 🎅🏻

Picked this fabulous original piece of art up from Craft & Flea yesterday. Grace & Flo create these wonderful works of art using our local delicacy the Staffordshire Oatcake.

It was good to chat to Jo and find out more about how she creates these and how she uses different brands of oatcakes to create different effects.

Being near to the potteries, we just had to have the one with potbanks!

Yesterday I found a Scarecrow Trail Map in the local shop. The trail has been created by local people for the Endon Well Dressing weekend. What a lovely way for our next guests to explore the local area if they wish 📖🗺️

Another lovely review from guests who attended a wedding at our stunning local venue The Ashes Barns Wedding Venue & Country House Accommodation.

The gardens at Spring Cottage really are beautiful for al fresco dining when the sun I shining.

Spring Cottage sleeps 6 guests and is a stone's throw away from the Ashes so is perfect accommodation for getting together with friends and family pre and post wedding.
