Archie and I tried the delights on offer at the Hostellerie Charlemagne in Charroux on our last visit. It felt like a very posh restaurant but wasn't at all stuffy with Madame being very welcoming. A delicious meal ensued as can be seen from the photos and then of course we had a lovely moonlit walk home

A visit to Charroux abbey did not disappoint. What an enormous structure it must have once been. Built on the site of a church in the 11th century it was abandoned and partly demolished after the French Revolution. Entrance was free but it's summer opening only

There's not too many interior shots to share while we get the place ready. Having said that my next update will be of the newly painted bedrooms... These shots are from my first visit in January. The fire lit before sunset, followed by a hearty dinner whilst studying the permitted paint codes for exterior woodwork! Washed down with a delicious bottle of Pelforth au naturelle!

This is a font in the Merdancon, which is the little stream at the bottom of the garden of the gite. The house can be seen at the top of the hill in the 2nd & 3rd photos. There is a sign telling you about the font. I have included a fairly poor translation! The party-god bit sounds fun!
It's a lovely stroll down from the gite alongside fields with both donkeys and cranes in them (the bird-type crane!).
If you follow the path on it leads into the village, and of course the boulangerie :)
