The Bothy has everything you need and more including the private garden with a patio, and breathtaking scenery all around

Perched high above a green valley, boasting 360 degree sw

eeping views over the magnificent rural landscape of Northumberland sits the Laverick Cottage. The Laverick is a large three bedroom cottage
with enormous open plan country-style kitchen equipped with American-style fridge freezer, ultra-modern electric range, and high-spec appliances. There is a large central island, dining room area with seating for 8 and lounge area with a wood-burning stove. The 3 bedrooms all enjoy the comfort of their own ensuite bathroom. 2 of the superking beds can also be made up as twins. Unbelievable south facing views from the picture window and a magnificent bathroom with roll top bath. The Coach House is a bit different from its sister properties of Laverick Cottage and The Bothy. It is not self-catering but simply offers four beautifully furnished and decorated bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. Each bedroom has a Smart TV, good wifi and tea- and coffee-making facilities. Three have king-size beds and the other is a twin room. There is also a little patio terrace area outside for guests to enjoy an early morning coffee enjoying the fresh air of Northumberland before maybe heading down the road the The Boatside Inn pub for an infamous English breakfast. All the beds at Stay On The Hill are super comfortable with deep mattress toppers, Egyptian cotton bedlinen and luxury pillows, while the towels are all fluffy, white and good quality toiletries are provided. Stay On The Hill is just a few miles from Hadrian's Wall and the Roman site of Vindolanda. Kielder Forest and the Northumberland National Park are also not far. Or just try one of the many walks on your doorstep. The historic market town of Hexham is a short drive away, and there are some terrific country pubs too – the Red Lion in Newbrough, serving great food and local ales, the popular Angel at Corbridge, and even Hjem, Micheline restaurant just across the river in Wall. Stay On The Hill is ideal for groups of friends or families looking to spend some time exploring this unspoilt region of Northumberland. With its enviable hillside position and contemporary amenities make it the perfect home away from home for hikers, foodies, young families and outdoors enthusiasts alike. The rolling hills stretch as far as the eye can see. There is a network of bridle ways, footpaths and cycle routes in every direction. Hiking, fishing, shopping, eating and culture there really is something for everyone. There are also miles of sparsely populated coastline within easy driving distance.

Super atmospheric walk along Hadrian's Wall around Housesteads this afternoon. We drove through the fog and walked up into the sunlight.
Breathtaking views across the valley with the fog rolling over the Wall. The light at this time of year is amazing, you must visit! Our cottages and guest rooms are less than a 20 minute drive from here 😊

Happy World Book Day!

There's something inherently relaxing about losing yourself in a good book. You can escape reality for a while, providing much-needed relaxation and mental health benefits. It doesn’t have to be a hefty tome or a classic work of fiction, anything that captures your attention and transports you somewhere else can work wonders on your emotional wellbeing. Studying a map and looking for places to explore or learn about what is in the surrounding area can be equally mindful.

Our cottages have a selection of books for you to peruse, and of course, you can bring your own. Whether you want to curl up on the comfy sofas or have a cuppa at the breakfast bar, there's a reading spot just for you. And if the weather is fine, there's nothing better than sitting outside, listening to the birds and taking in the views in between pages.

Where will you read your book?

Good news! Earlier this month came the announcement that Inner Farne island would reopen for visitor boat landings on 25th March, following a two-year closure to restrict the spread of avian flu.

Located a few miles off the Northumberland Coast, the Farne Islands are renowned for their wildlife. Though most famous for puffins and seals, there are many other species of seabird to spot too, so don't forget your binoculars and camera!

To land on Inner Farne, or to sail around the Farne Islands, you need to catch a boat from Seahouses harbour. We highly recommend booking your trip in advance - head to Billy Shiel Farne Islands Boats or Serenity Boats for sailing times.

We’ve seen lots of beautiful snowy and frosty scenes over social media in the last few days, so we thought we’d share some of our own family pics.

There are some fabulous walks to be had straight from the doorstep at Stay On The Hill, where the children and the furry ones can run free and have a lot of fun!

With a winter break in Northumberland, you can discover stunning scenery, explore pretty market towns and historic castles, cosy up in some great pubs after your walks and give your batteries a much-needed recharge…

Head to the website and book yourself a winter treat ❄️
