A wader packed walk up to Boulmer from Alnmouth today adding Grey Plover, Blackwit & Purple Sandpiper to the year list. Such a great spot for shorebirds with lots of Sanderling, Dunlin, Ringed Plover and Turnstone along with Barwit, Redshank & Curlew. A single, disgruntled Snipe and a Common Sandpiper were the suprise finds along the beach!
We're up and running at the Friends of Nottingham Road Cemetery - Derby open day - free to join nature walks at 11am & 1pm. Plenty to see and learn. One of our juv Sparrowhawks showing well already and Green Woodpecker, GS Woodpecker, RN Parakeet and a pulse of House Martins through!
3 spaces remaining on our autumn bird walk at Carsington Water on Sunday 1st September - always plenty of interest with wildfowl, local scarcities like Willow Tit & Tree Sparrow with the chance of passage waders and passerines 👇

Great hour watching up to 5 local Sparrowhawk (including 3 recently fledged noisy juveniles) at Notts Road Cemetery this morning with both adults chasing the Green Woodpeckers (something they do quite frequently especially when there are juvenile Woodpeckers around). Also two Kestrel on site and a new bird for the cemetery with a Great White Egret over.
Here is a bit of video of one of the young Sparrowhawks with a second bird calling from nearby - Friends of Nottingham Road Cemetery - Derby
Top group walk and a great evening for mammals at #lockopark tonight. A first Muntjac sighting, 2 Fallow Deer, Fox, 15+ Brown Hare and 4 species of bat with 2 probable Brown Long-Eared, Noctule, Common Pipistrelle and Daubentons
Great to co-lead a walk in Duffield tonight with Mick from the brilliant Save Our Swifts (Duffield) and Derbyshire Swift Conservation for Swift Awareness Week.
Despite a dodgy forecast the rain held off & c30 folk enjoyed some evening Swift action with birds visiting nest sites as well as good numbers of House Martins on route.
Top night with a great group for our last planned Nightjar evening of 2024 - they have kept us waiting this year but eventually we enjoyed great views of perched birds as well as two in flight (lots of churring). Roding Woodcock, singing Tree Pipit, hunting Buzzard & a GS Woodpecker visiting a probable nest hole too!
Still a few spots available on our evening walk at Locko on Saturday 6th July 👇

Our evening walk here last week was brilliant - Barn Owl, Little Owl, Spotted Flycatcher, multiple Brown Hare, Fallow Deer, a suprise Badger and an absolute Bat-fest over the lake with four species feeding. Email me to book or for more information
No Easter Bunnies today but we did manage one beautiful Mountain Hare with our client, David, in less than perfect conditions!
Despite the gorgeous start fog soon set in so we were really pleased with the view we did get. Great views of Golden Plover and Curlew early on too!
Woodlark - one of seven from a fantastic jaunt round North Notts today.
Other highlights included two drumming Lesser Spotted Woodpeckers (male and female), five Green Woodpecker, four Marsh Tit, Little Owl, Goshawk (2), Peregrine, Red Kite (7), Crossbill & five gorgeous Black-Necked Grebes.
A good idea for a group tour next year I think 🤔
The beautiful Barn Owl we enjoyed on last nights walk 😍
