A wader packed walk up to Boulmer from Alnmouth today adding Grey Plover, Blackwit & Purple Sandpiper to the year list. Such a great spot for shorebirds with lots of Sanderling, Dunlin, Ringed Plover and Turnstone along with Barwit, Redshank & Curlew. A single, disgruntled Snipe and a Common Sandpiper were the suprise finds along the beach!

Spending a few days in Northumberland - travelled up yesterday stopping off at Hadrians Wall for the first time in my 50 years! Enjoyed a damp walk in typical Pennine weather to visit the now infamous Sycamore(less) Gap - a fantastic area that looks great for Ring Ouzel and Wheatear in spring.

We are staying in Alnmouth which is just stunning (the fine weather helps 😀) with Brown Hares and Curlew feeding just behind our accommodation and we encountered 7 species of wader just walking to the pub yesterday evening.

A coastal 10 miler to Amble today tested the ankles - but added another 5 species of wader along with Sandwich Tern and Eider to the year list!

Here's a few pics

Top walk with Jen & James at today & what a time for our 1st Whinchats (2) of the autumn to appear! We enjoyed brilliant views of the two busy birds flycatching in a favourite spot 😍.

It was a good day for raptors too with great views of hunting Peregrine & Kestrel, sparring Sparrowhawks & plenty of Common Buzzards. Around 25 Mandarins showed nicely at the lake along with Grey Wagtails and a patch tick Little Grebe ✅️

A fab walk in good company!

Nice walk at Carsington today with a lovely couple of folks this morning - a misty autumn morning on arrival but some great species on view eventually with Pochard, Teal, Lapwing and Little and Great Crested Grebes showing well and a cracking adult Yellow Legged Gull was a lifer for them! No hoped for migrants on the dam wall but we did enjoy watching 3 juvenile Swallows being fed!
