Tide View - Holiday Let Marazion

Sunday 30th June 2024 sees the next Open Day at the former Penlee Lifeboat Station, at Penlee Point between Mousehole and Newlyn.

The building will be open for visitors from 11 am to 3 pm (but there is always some flexibility about when we close - if we'e still busy we won't lock up!). This is a great opportunity to visit an historic boathouse, the home of Penlee's Lifeboats from before World War I to the 1980's.

If you are in west Cornwall on Sunday and you'd like to visit, please come along. You'll be made very welcome. There is no need to book a time - even if we are busy you will only have to wait a few minutes.

No charge is made to visit this site, but we are always grateful for the generosity of many of our visitors in making donations to the work of the RNLI.

Storm Kathleen really showed up down at porthleven yesterday afternoon

🌊 🌊 🌊

As much fun as it was shooting the waves crashing against the rocks the real action was all going on within the harbour

A small red car (photos and videos now circulating around on social media) had been left by the harbour wall by the Ship Inn and was being bombarded by waves breaching the defences

A crowd of 40 plus tavern dwellers were gasping and cheering as the car got pushed closer and closer towards the depths of the sea

Numerous families and couples were running the gauntlet between the shops and the clock tower, desperately trying (and regularly failing) not to get soaked

Upon leaving I witnessed a car loaded with holiday gear on the roof turn up with them clearly looking for their abode, only to be greeted by a 30ft wall of sea spray and debris land on their bonnet and windshield

People were gasping, kids were crying

🐟 sardines in the bay - a spur of the moment visit to Newlyn saw us witness fishing boats yards from the pier hauling great catches of sardines - awesome sight. Grateful thanks to the skipper and crew of PZ46 who made time to chat to us and allowed us to get in their way to watch them off loading their catch of many tons and even gave us some for our breakfast. Delicious! Felt a real privilege. ⛴️ Newlyn is a working harbour since 15th century and is one of the largest fishing ports in the UK. Remembering my youth when fishing from both piers was permitted, spent many very happy eves with my Dad and brother here. A special place and the fisherman always friendly and willing to share. 🐟

As part of our annual Penlee Lifeboat Station Open Day in Newlyn, the old lifeboat station at Penlee Point, Mousehole will also be open to visitors on Monday, August 29 (Bank Holiday Monday) from 10.30am until 2.30pm. The walls of this iconic building reflect our very rich lifeboat history - it's well worth a visit. Our local RNLI Visits Team will be there to meet and greet you.

Unfortunately, there is no disabled access due to the steep steps down to the boathouse. Roadside parking is available nearby but we ask that you don’t park on the pavement. There is a regular bus service from Penzance to Mousehole and you can be dropped off at Penlee Caravan Park, a short distance from the old boathouse. Visitor numbers will be restricted to a maximum of 15 people at any one time inside the boathouse.
