Following the success of the 2020 Stromness Living Advent Calendar (LAC), the Stromness Community Development Trust are hoping to provide more festive cheer this Christmas... with your help!
For 2021 the Trust has decided on a 𝑾𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝑾𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒅 theme.
This allows for all of the displays to be open and on show for the whole of December, encouraging folk to wander through the town, enjoy the festive displays and take advantage of the brilliant offerings available in the local shops and businesses.

For those that are keen to take part, we would be more than happy to share our ‘advice to windows makers’ document, which provides some guidance on design.
Last year we were treated to a range of festive windows including, illuminated silhouette displays, traditional Christmas scenes and creative decorations.

We would like to ensure that where possible and safe to do so, that each window is unveiled and lit on 28th November – supporting the start of the ‘mulled wine Sundays’ festive shopping opening in Stromness.
From then, it would be great to see displays illuminated by 3.30/4pm and through the evenings each day, until 1st January 2022.

The locations of the LAC windows were released at the end of November last year, we feel that publishing the addresses of the windows and creating a trail worked well. The plan is to create a similar poster this year, highlighting where to find each display.

To ensure those enjoying the window displays are kept safe we ask that -
✅Windows are no more than a 10 - 15 minute walk from the Pier Head, via a safe route.
✅Windows must be viewable from a safe place (pavement/footpath).
✅Windows must be viewable without the need to enter a garden or driveway.

If you are interested in taking part then we would love to hear from you before the of 25th November.

Alternatively, if you can provide a window and/or would like to design a window please get in touch with Ruby by messaging the StromnessOrkney page or by emailing stromnessorkney @ hotmail.com

It's hard to believe but that's the 'Summer' season over. Thanks to all who came along to visit this year. It's been a tough one with all the restrictions that were in place, but being outside helped.
Over the winter we will be open by appointment only. If you would like to visit, please get in touch.
In December, we will be attending Skaill House Christmas Fayre and our usual visit to Shearers. As well as all that we are planning our Orkney tour. Details to follow.
Have a great winter season. Stay safe and stay warm.
All the best.

So today we've been painting elephants ... as you do ...
in preparation for a Painting Day next week where we will be taking inspiration from Jane F. Gordon's gorgeous elephant watercolour 'Stay Close To Mama' which is in our 'Wild Things' Summer Exhibition 2021. The original painting is only £25 so really will be snapped up quickly. Send us a message if you'd like it to be yours.

Wake Up And See The Sunrise ...
This is one of my favourite affirmations! And here's a page completed on one of our Art Journal workshops - great for creatively capturing the wonderful feelings of wellbeing & joy from your holiday here on the island. Take those feelings home with you & remember them every time you look through your Holiday Journal.

Come & create your Journal with us here at Beach Gallery. Send us a message to tell us when you're planning your holiday & we can fix up a date for you to visit. You'll be working in the studio right next to a lovely beach - so inspiring, what could be nicer?
