Happy Monday Paradise Seekers and what a (relatively) gorgeous sunny morning it is! Obviously it goes without saying that I would rather be dipping my toes into the South China Sea or arguing with Gary in my determination that flip flops are suitable footwear for heading out on safari, but I'm taking a positive view that it was beautiful out there this morning walking the dogs.
Where would you rather be? A place that doesn't really get much discussion despite its beauty, is Madeira. Those who know me know I love a challenge. 2 miles swimming across Lake Windermere? Count me in! Double marathon hike across the Cotswolds? Pass me my boots! However, ones knees and shoulders aren't what they once were but I still want to experience it all. If you're in a similar position, then Maderia is the spot for you!
Whether or not you have moody knees, Pico do Areeiro may be the third highest peak on Madeira, but a road leading up the slopes makes for easy access to its peak, complete with ample parking.
Looking to elevate the experience even further? A footpath follows the ridgeline to Pico Ruivo, the highest point on the Portuguese isle. I can hear some of you gulping at the thought of that narrow ridgeline, but it has hand rails....ish. I'm sure some people will skip across it waving their arms around and whooping "look Ma! No hands!!!". I will be a tad more respectful of gravity however and will cling on while making my way across.
Madeira has so much to offer. With it's beautiful beaches, stunning mountains, gorgeous waterfalls, fabulous food and the pretty much guaranteed warm welcome, I really don't know what you are waiting for!
