🪘🥁 Having Pamela join our table during our cultural dining experience is always a pleasure, especially when she teaches our groups the clicking song. For those unfamiliar with Xhosa, the pronunciation can be quite tricky (to say the least), but the experience itself is incredible, providing a rich cultural immersion through music, dance, and delicious cuisine.

South Africa’s variety of cultures and its 12 official languages highlight the nation’s incredible diversity and multilingual nature—it’s easy to see why SA is known as the Rainbow Nation. The country has a total of 12 official languages, which are: Afrikaans, English, isiNdebele, isiXhosa, isiZulu, Sepedi, Sesotho, Setswana, siSwati, Tshivenda, Xitsonga, and South African Sign Language (SASL), which was officially recognised as the 12th language in 2023. 🇿🇦

This week the African Penguin was recognised as critically endangered. 🐧💔

Our African penguins are on the brink of extinction, with their numbers plummeting by over 90% in the past century. Alongside overfishing and habitat loss, plastic pollution is a major threat.

African penguins are unique to South Africa and Namibia and known for their close-knit community bonds. Where they once thrived along our shores, they are now critically endangered and could vanish completely by 2035.

As Zandi says, healthy oceans are essential for humanity to thrive. Every action counts to protect our penguins before time runs out.
