"Good for you. Good for Guernsey."
Meet Rachel Dovey - one of our milk ambassadors and a Silver Accredited Tour Guide.
Rachel has deep roots in Guernsey, her family has lived here for generations, giving Rachel a unique and profound connection to the island. Her enthusiasm, combined with a local's insider knowledge, makes her guided tours truly special. Among the most common questions she receives is, “When can we see a Guernsey cow?”
Rachel finds particular joy in leading visitors away from the bustling coast and St. Peter Port into the serene countryside. "This is where Guernsey's real authenticity comes to life," she says, as she guides visitors through the patchwork of fields and winding lanes that characterize the island's rural heart.
Indeed, the picturesque countryside, dotted with herds of Guernsey cows, is a highlight for many. These cows have been a part of the island's heritage since the Middle Ages and are a protected species today. Known for their gentle nature and high-quality milk, they are also naturally curious, often approaching visitors.
"I love that I can plan a tour and know we'll pass a field of cows at some point. They’re always friendly, they put on a show for visitors, and they're a fundamental part of life here. There's something inherently Guernsey about these happy, docile creatures," says Rachel.
