Fun & Fascinating Tours I am passionate about history, literature and art and love meeting and connecting with people. Throu Good times! I look forward to meeting you!

Through this group I offer both in-person walking tours in London, and also online talks and presentations about fascinating topics. The in-person tours always bring a fun bunch of curious people, and after a 2-hour stroll around some interesting angle of London's history we refresh ourselves with a social trip to a local pub.

"The river glideth at his own sweet will:
Dear God! the very houses seem asleep;
And all that mighty heart is lying still!"

(from 'Composed upon Westminster Bridge' by William Wordsworth)

You are welcome to join me for another fascinating online talk, on Saturday Dec 4th at 4pm UK time, exploring over 500 years of poets writing about various aspects of London life, from medieval to modern times, including some great and lesser-known poets.

The glorious, the disastrous, the quaint and the destitute, the cream of society and the commonest folk, the beauty and the ugliness, crystal waters and the belches of industry, human emotions in their wild spectrum...I'll be reading poems that address many aspects of life in London and it's changing landscapes for the last 500 years.

Sharing my screen with you on Zoom, I'll be using good-quality images with the text of the poems to guide you through this topic.

You are welcome to join me for another fascinating online talk, on Saturday Nov 20th at 4pm UK time, exploring the history of Roman Britain (c. 44 - 410 AD), and focusing on what life was like on Hadrian's Wall.

Taking in the history of the Roman invasion and the complex social, civil and cultural unfoldings of this new situation, we'll be looking in depth at the various forts and settlements along Hadrian's Wall.

Built as a defensive and security measure in the 120s AD under the orders of the Roman Emperor Hadrian, the wall took on a life of its own with its own regular settlements of soldiers and civilians.

Amazingly, letters have been excavated from this time, from Roman soldiers and their families, writing very everyday things and giving a fascinating glimpse into the daily life 1600 years ago. So we'll be reading those!

It's an intriguing time in British history!

You are welcome to join me for another fascinating online talk, on Saturday Nov 6th at 4pm UK time, exploring the beautiful poetry and life of John Keats (1795 - 1821).

I'll be focusing mainly on the year 1819, when Keats wrote some of the most famous poems in the English language, such as 'Ode to Psyche', 'Ode on Melancholy', 'Ode to a Nightingale' and 'Ode on a Grecian Urn'.

I will read these Odes to you, setting them in the context of his life, the literary movements of the time, and some of their own poetic meanings.

They are beautiful works of literature, and the house where he wrote some of them still exists in a lovely garden in Hampstead, London!

Sharing my screen with you on Zoom, I'll be using good-quality images to guide you through this lovely topic.
