Tenerife is an ideal destination for the beaches and sunny weather!
Tenerife is an island in Spain that is part of the Canary Islands and it also happens to be the biggest out of all the Canary Islands. It is also the most densely populated of the Canary Islands, making up a grand total of 43% of the population in that area. Tenerife is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, it is estimated that up to 5 million people visit every year. Tenerife is best known for having a great warm weather climate all year round where the weather is especially good during the summer months between June and September. Tenerife is also known for having a wide variety of beaches such as Playa La Tejita which is known for being the biggest natural beach on the entire island of Tenerife. A unique trait of some of the beaches in Tenerife is the black sand which is caused by volcanic rocks being ground down by the waves from the sea. Some examples of black sand beaches are Playa del Ancón and Rambla de Castro which are beaches specifically far away from areas that have a lot of noise so that the scenery can be enjoyed in peace. Another popular attraction is the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife that takes place in either February or March depending on the year and is the second most popular carnival in the world after the one held in Rio De Janeiro in Brazil. This carnival is based around a variety of things such as music, costumes, parties, parades and dancing, the Carnival in Tenerife lasts for 15 days. Tourists in Tenerife can also go on a Whale and Dolphin watching tour that is specifically designed to make sure that there is no negative impact on the environment because they are in their natural habitat. It is important to keep in mind that these tours are only available during high season when there is the largest number of visitors to the area. And finally, you can also tour Cueva del Viento which is a cave system that has been formed by volcanic rock over time, you will find lava lakes, stalactites, fossils and a wide range of insects. It is important to note that that you should dress suitably for this tour in long trousers and comfortable footwear.
Tenerife shares the local cuisine of the Canary Islands which is built upon both local ingredients and local flavors. For example, El Gofio is a type of flour that is made from toasted cereals that is used in a variety of meals such as soup mixed with fish stock, it can also be served with milk for breakfast and if you mix it with honey and almonds it can be used to make a dessert. This is important to the identity of the island as it has been used since the original inhabitants of the islands lived there. Most Canarian dishes are based on the basics. For example, Pata asada which is roasted ham, Carne fiesta which is fried pork meat and Queso asado and mojo which is grilled cheese with two types of sauce; mojo rojo and mojo verde.
In Tenerife the main language that is spoken is Spanish, specifically the Canarian dialect. However, due to Tenerife being one of the top tourist destinations in the world there should be no issues in finding people that speak English there.
