Hello! I’ve been very lucky and have a few new followers so I thought I’d re-introduce myself!

I’m Georgie, a Tour Guide from London. I live with my husband, our 3 year old little boy and our cat Satchmo in Downham, Bromley.

My area of expertise (because I’m a very proud mega-nerd) is Royal History but I adore everything historical that comes with a good story! I also write a blog that you can find through my website - click the link in my bio!

If you’re ever in London, or if you live here but want to learn more, then please do have a look at my website and see what tours might suit you!

On Thursday 8th of September 2022, we heard the deeply sad news that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II died at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. It has been just over a week of no full ceremony in London for the Changing of the Guard, but from today the usual proceedings will take place.

His Majesty King Charles III’s guards will continue to change every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at St James’s and Buckingham Palace.

Im often asked what I like to do with my time off. In all honesty, I love to explore! We’ve come to the Docklands today to have a wander and to visit the Museum of London Docklands.

Living in London, there is no shortage of places to visit and explore and most of them are less than an hour away on public transport!

Do you like to explore your nearby neighbourhoods in your free time?

It’s a beautiful day for a Classic Westminster tour!

Starting with a lovely stroll looking at the most iconic sites in the City of Westminster, we then head down Whitehall to catch the box change at Horse Guards. Filled with stories from the most scandalous Royal houses and dynasties, this tour offers an insight into life at court during the most shocking and world-changing periods of British history.

Holborn Viaduct - opened by Queen Victoria in 1869 following the enormous overhaul of London’s sewage system. The bridge crosses over the valley where the River Fleet once ran (now buried underground but still flowing into the River Thames) and created better connection from Westminster to the City of London and to nearby Smithfield Market. The underneath of the bridge shows extravagant ornate detailing, Queen Victoria stopped her carriage to admire it on her way through.

There is always something to notice as you travel through London, most structures have a history - you just have to ask!

☀️Another beautiful day for a tour!☀️ this is where my Changing of the Guard tour starts and I love it here because there is so much history in this one small area!

The site in the photo has been a significant landmark since the 1200s. Charing Cross, where the statue of Charles I stands, has been the “centre of London ” for centuries and it is where all distances from London are measured.

Now it’s time to greet my guests! Have a lovely sunny Friday!

Did You Know…?

The bear skin hats (or “caps” as the army call them) have been used for ceremonial purposes since 1832 but were being worn by soldiers following the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. The French wore the tall hats as a means to intimidate their British counterparts so they were adopted by the regiments who guarded the Royal households.

These famous caps are worn by the five Foot Guard regiments. Some regiments have plumes in one or side the other, the Scots Guards have no plume. The soldiers in this picture are members of the Irish Guards, their plume is blue and is adorned on the right side of the caps.

We’ll be back with more Did You Know…? next time!
