Location 7 - Jaipur

This is known as the “pink city” because of all the houses which have been painted pink.

We visited the “Anoothi project” where women are taught how to master the art of block painting we even had a chance to participate.

We visited the Amber fort a UNESCO World Heritage site over looking an artificial lake. The palace, courtyards and intricate details on the walls.

Location 6 - Pushkar

This town was one of my favourites a very slow paced place with a hippy vibe!

This is the only place where there is a Brahma temple, pilgrims travel to bathe in the lake below it.

There were lots of activities from camel riding, horse riding, jeep safari, quad biking and sand boarding together with lots of places to shop and lots of lovely restaurant’s that overlook the lake and make a great place to watch the sunset.

Location 5 - Jojawar

In between Udaipur and Pushkar we stopped at a very small village called Jojawa where we had a lovely hotel and walk around the village seeing how the locals live.

We then caught a local train which took us through the mountains and the scenery was incredible!

Location 4 - Udaipur

We stayed in old town Udaipur, a lovely little town with several lakes, historic forts and palaces!

The roads in the old town are still very narrow so the mode of transport was tuk-tuk, although we did bump into an elephant on route!

We had a boat ride around the main lake where we saw the lake palace and lots of other nice palaces which have now been converted into hotels.

A 20k bike ride around one of the other lakes with a quick pit stop for a chai made by a local.

Then we went for a cooking class with a local lady who showed us how they cook traditional Indian dishes. Including the two ways to cook chapati.

Location 3 - Jodhpur

Jodhpur is known as the “Blue City” due to this being the most common building colour in the old town.

Here we visited the fort and learned all about the history of the city.

We then visited a local artist Roopraj (Roo) Prajapati who creates lovely hand weaved durries/rugs. On average it takes 2 people 2 months to make 1 piece!

Location 2 - Mandawa

This town is known as the “Open Art Gallery” during the 18th century this town was a key stop for those travelling in the silk industry. Wealthy merchants chose to build their homes in this town leading to the construction on Havelis, some of which are now hotels like the one we stayed in!

All of the paintings were hand painted directly into the plaster and the colour pigment made from various natural materials.

Location 1 - Delhi

Our first few days were spent in Delhi, our first trip was to visit Old Delhi, Chandni Chowk, one of India’s oldest and largest markets!

Then we went and visited Salaam Baalak Trust where we learned all about the street kids of Delhi and how this trust helps rescue them from that life! A trust that Prince William and Kate have supported.

The trust rescue 10 kids a day, provide them with a home and education to help turn their lives around. Our tour guide himself was one of those kids who ended up on the street at age of 2 and grew up there until he was rescued. He is now studying, acting in Bollywood movies and working for the trust.

Spain to press ahead with ‘Big Brother’ security checks on tourists from Monday

Tourists arriving in Spain from next week will have to provide personal data, including contact details and their relationship to any children travelling with them.

The Spanish Government is introducing the new checks as part of a crackdown on organised crime.

The data, which must be collected by hotels, tour operators, holiday rental platforms and car hire firms, will be uploaded onto a platform to be shared with Spanish security forces.

While accommodation providers in other EU countries are required by law to check a guest’s passport or other form of ID, they currently don’t pass on the details unless requested to do so.

From 2 December, Spain will require hotels and other suppliers to provide detailed information about each visit, including guest payment details and other information not on their passports, such as their home address, email address, phone numbers, the number of people in their group and their relationship to children travelling with them.

The checks are listed in the Royal Decree (which can be read in English on Chrome). The rules apply to mainland Spain and its islands, including the Balearics and the Canary Islands and any non-compliant companies risk fines of up to €30,000. .

A request by CEHAT, Spain’s leading hotel association, for the measures to be scrapped or watered down appears to have been ignored, although they have succeeded in delaying its introduction, which was originally due to be in January 2023.

CEHAT is now planning a last-minute legal challenge, but Spain’s Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska has insisted the checks are necessary to tackle organised crime.

However, CEHAT Secretary General Ramón Estalella described them to The Telegraph as ‘like Big Brother’, warning they ‘will cause chaos’. He told the paper: “Spain is already the only country in the EU where hotels must send guests’ ID info to the police, while in other countries they just have to keep that data for a period.

“Not only could it violate fundamental privacy rights, but it also threatens to complicate and hinder the experience of millions of visitors who choose Spain as a destination."
