What I’d give to share a plate of haggis with this late great.

The late chef, writer and travel documentarian Anthony Bourdain at the University Cafe in Byres Road, 2015.

Bourdain, who was born on this day in 1956, tried the 'unfairly reviled' haggis on his trip to the Byres Road institution.

He called it 'one of life's great pleasures' and also enjoyed chips, cheese and curry sauce, all washed down with a glass of Irn-Bru.

Did you know today is World Food Travel Day?

Which “dish from your past” conjures up delicious memories for you?

Maybe something that featured on the family weekly meal menu or something you only got when a it was a high day or holiday!

Being raised in North-East Scotland the white fish haddock would feature regularly on our family dinner table. It was so plentiful in the North Sea.

Fortunately I liked fish. I wouldn’t have said as a child that I loved it, but I liked it and unusually I liked it best when the haddock was deeply smoked whole in the way of the ‘Arbroath Smokie’.

With protected geographical status the Arbroath Smokie served hot with bread and butter brings me right back to my childhood.

The smell and taste is so distinctive. Think hot smoked juicy white fish straight out the smokehouse. The best!

Join the celebration. Share your dish!

If you've been on one of our tours you'll likely have met me, Brenda. I began Tasting Scotland in 2012 and for nearly as many years, I've been a World Food Travel Association Ambassador.

I always look forward to April 18. It is one of my favourite days in the office (and you'll know I far prefer days on the road touring with you, than being stuck in the office!).

April 18 means . Oftentimes the theme is based on wonderful, memorable experiences you've had when travelling. But, this year, it's as close to home as you can get. The "THEME" for 2024 is "A dish from your past."

With a nod to culinary tourism's close connection with culinary heritage, this year, we are asking people to share a favorite dish or recipe from your own culinary heritage - something from the past, maybe that was made by your grandmother or grandfather.

I'd love to hear yours! Participating is easy and does not cost anything!

Join the global food tourism movement annually on April 18th. Discover unique culinary experiences and promote your local culinary culture. Destinations sponsor for maximum visibility.

Look out for those Michelin Keys!

Style and service. Personality and reliability. Culture, comfort, and a consistently extraordinary experience — this is what makes a MICHELIN Guide hotel.

As the saying goes 'If you want to be someone, just be yourself'.

As a business owner, luxury travel planner, tour driver, tour guide, mum, partner, daughter, sister, auntie and friend there are a lot of different hats to be worn depending on the day, or the hour or even the minute.

Yesterday, I attended a workshop with the brilliant Canva Verified Expert and Graphic Designer Juls Christie-Clark hosted by the also wonderful Laura Maginess founder of and

I squirmed (more than) a little when Juls suggested we create a short video that was a bit more fun (and less business-y). Tell people a little about the person they're trusting to plan and deliver their sightseeing, culinary and whisky based tours around Scotland.
What? Not about why they should choose Tasting Scotland because of the strength of my local knowledge, a head for travel planning (it can be like a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle), love of sharing my country, my partnerships etc etc. Nope, tell them about you. Brenda.

So, here's the result. As a perfectionist it's not 100% perfect, but it's good enough, right! I'm loving that globally at the moment there’s a true appreciation for all things authentic. In the past 12 years since starting I've come to realise that by offering the true me to others, that people gravitate most quickly to where I'm most comfortable, in other words 'our lane'.
I definitely serve others better (or at least I think I do, you'd have to ask my tour guests, friends and family!) and feel more at ease when just wearing one hat. I urge you to do the same:

Wear the authentic hat of ‘Me’ All day, everyday.

Since 8 February 2017, people around the world have been celebrating this day in memory of the founder of 'Johnnie Walker', Alexander Walker’s birthday.

It’s probably no surprise to hear that for at least the last 100 years Scotland has been producing the most Whisky globally.

Is it easy to get confused with the spelling of Whisky or is that Whiskey? In Scotland it's definitely Whisky (like in Canada and Japan). In the USA and Ireland it's Whiskey, with an 'e'.

The global celebration of whisky encourages whisky drinkers (of legal age wherever you are), both new and old, to sit down with their favourite dram of top-quality Scotch (doing so responsibly of course).

So, wherever you are....

Slàinte Mhath!

(And thank you Graydon for doing the honours and filling up this lovely bottle of Glengoyne Highland Malt!).

The original Michelin Man from 1894.⁣ The Michelin Man is white because rubber tires are naturally white. It was not until 1912, that carbon chemicals were mixed into the white tires, which turned them black. The change was structural, not aesthetic. By adding carbon, tires became more durable.⁣
Michelin also began reviewing restaurants so that more people would travel further distances in their cars to eat at these restaurants. This in turn would wear down their tires faster, and force them to buy more.⁣
The star system that Michelin uses goes up to three and is broken down by whether or not it's worth driving to the restaurant.
One star: "A very good restaurant in its category"
Two star: "Excellent cooking, worth a detour"
Three star: "Exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey...

Our Story

Multi-award winning, Tasting Scotland Gourmet Journeys & Events has been creating authentic and delicious food and drink memories across the scenic length and breadth of Scotland for almost 10 years. No other luxury travel planning service in Scotland is like it.

Each tour or event is still curated by it’s founder, Brenda Anderson; the World Food Travel Association Ambassador for Scotland. Brenda’s 5-star hotel experience spanned across the globe and her gastronomy and professional cookery lecturing over twenty years has been an inspiration to many.

If you love to eat, cook, enough a Scotch or a gin, meet artisan food or drink heroes or simply love to immerse yourself in a country’s culture through it’s food and drink (along with any number of other special interests) there’s a bespoke travel itinerary .......with your name (and only your name) on it.

Tasting Scotland doesn’t just provide services for those at leisure. If you’re a business looking to get people round a table and reward their hard work, start afresh to build a team or just have a damn good day, night or meal out, then there’s an event you should be letting us organise.
