Visited this lovely little 'Covenanters' church in Larkhall today with a couple from USA who are researching their family history. Rev Fiona Anderson et al showed us all some lovely hospitality with a tour of the church, an explanation of it's history and tea/cakes in the church hall that was all very much appreciated. It was great to meet such a lovely group of people.

I've not posted on here for a while but I have a sad announcement to make; Stuart, my very good friend and fellow guide passed away earlier this month after a long battle with a cruel illness and was laid to rest today. Stuart was one of the nicest people that I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and working with. He graced everyone with his kindness, courteous attitude and his wealth of experience. He will be very sadly missed. May he now Rest in Peace.

Coronavirus Lockdown Week #5 – Hi Folks, Hope you are all staying well. Resisting cabin fever here and unable to operate so I thought I would share my local area with you. I'm now beginning to appreciate some of the good things coming from this lockdown. For example, having time to walk and explore places that I wouldn’t normally have time to visit. Earlier this week, I decided to start exploring the sheltered streets of Tayport where I live mainly because it’s been a wee bit windy. I was surprised to find that Tayport received a Gold Award last year for Best small town in Fife! I also discovered a few new businesses and places I was completely unaware of. As you might expect most places are closed at present and unfortunately many businesses may struggle to survive or get back to normality after this crazy period is over. So, I thought it might be helpful to post some pics and info for general awareness of the facilities in my local area.

What facilities and interesting places do you have near you that might be worth visiting when this is all over?

My walk on Monday evening took me by the following;

If you are thinking about going to St Andrews, read my guide to find out more on where to stay. Hotels might be a budgetkiller, so why not rent a house?

The funny thing about history is that we imagine that people didn't laugh in the old days, but of course they did, at stupid things. Terry Jones was one of the great inventors of stupid things and in particular Monty Python... Your mother was a Hampster, your father smelled of elderberries..etc etc. RIP Terry Jones

The life of the actor, writer and director who found fame as a member of the Monty Python team.

Today is 140 years since Tay Rail Bridge disaster on 28th Dec 1879

🌉 140 years ago today, the Tay Rail Bridge disaster occurred when 75 people tragically lost their lives on the evening of December 28th, 1879 when a storm destroyed the bridge. The train the passengers were on fell into the cold waters of the Tay. The stumps from the old Tay Rail Bridge are the only things to remain 🌉

Last instalment of pics from a 7 day tour around Scotland, ended this week, with 2 lovely couples from South Carolina, US. It was a real pleasure to show these folks a little part of our beautiful country. I wish them the best luck on their return to US and hope that strength of Hurricane Dorian diminishes rapidly for them and everyone concerned! 🤞🙏

Some photos from our day on the Isle of Mull. Part of a 4 day tour with group from US. Unfortunately did not all go to plan as inclemement weather forced cancellation of a Whale watching cruise I had prebooked but at least we had a wee road trip around West Side of Mull and through Calgary instead! (No not Calgary Canada, Calgary Isle of Mull 😁)
