Northern Lights ✅️

Seeing the Northern Lights had been on my list for as long as I can remember, and in February, I saw them for the first time!

On the first night of our trip, we were both really tired, so we were going to go to bed. I saw on the Northern Lights tracker app that they were active, so at 11pm, we put on our snowsuits and boots and headed out.

That was the only time they were visible during our 4 night trip. Some of the group missed them because they had an early night, so we were really lucky.

I was lucky again in May when they appeared right above my house! (Last 2 pics).

The trip that made me fall in love with travel 🌸🐘

📍 Thailand

I had been on lots of holidays before, but my first trip to Thailand genuinely changed my life.

I planned a 3 week itinerary, stayed in 7 different places, plus one night on a sleeper train. I snorkelled with whale sharks, had a whole island to myself for the afternoon, kayaked through mangroves, and stayed in some amazing hotels/villas. I loved it so much that I went back again a few months later and explored some more!

Thailand will always have my heart 💕

Lapland for grown-ups ❄️

I absolutely loved my trip to Finland earlier in the year. I'd never been on a 'cold' holiday before, but I'd definitely do it again. And, I saw the Northern Lights, which had been on my bucket list forever!

The trip I went on was 4 nights and included:

▪️Sami Reindeer Experience
▪️Northern Lights Trek (this has been replaced with Arctic Ice Fishing by Snowmobile (4 night trips only)

The accommodation was so nice, and the food was great too. There is an ice hole in the lake, which I went in twice! There's also a sauna and whirlpool bath to use, these are at an additional cost.
The trip was a perfect balance of activities and downtime.

This is an adult-based tour only suitable for those aged 17 or above.

Where calm Bosphorus waters meet relaxed luxury and sophisticated design..

During my recent visit to Istanbul, I did a hotel inspection at the stunning Six Senses Kocataş Mansions.

This 5-star property is made up of two restored Ottoman-era mansions, Kocatas Mansion, and Sait Pasa Mansion, and it has beautiful views over the Bosphorus Strait. There are 43 generously-sized guest rooms and suites.

The grounds are stunning, and you can enjoy Italian, fine dining, and a selection of Turkish delicacies at the different eateries.

There is a spa offering various treatments, a gym, and an indoor and outdoor pool.

The hotel also offers sustainability workshops where you can make soaps, lip balms, candles, etc.

Istanbul continued 🧿🇹🇷

This is what I got up to during the rest of my time in Istanbul – better late than never!

The first day, I had only seen the outside of the Sultanahmet Mosque (Blue Mosque), so I visited the inside. I recommend going later in the day as it tends to be quieter. The mosque closes for prayer, but you can join the queue to enter during prayer so you’re at the front when it opens again, as the queue can get quite big.
Everyone is required to wear clothing that covers the shoulders and knees. Women must also cover their head – scarves are provided at the entrance.

The Grand Bazaar is a 10/15 min walk from Sultanahmet Mosque and something you must experience. I loved the hustle and bustle, and there are some great bargains to be had!

One evening, I headed down to the waterfront to watch the fishermen and then walked across Galata Bridge to the Asian side and to see Galata Tower. Halfway across the bridge, I stopped to watch the sunset.

Overall, I loved Istanbul. I spent most of my time there on the European side but would love to go back and explore the Asian side more.

I would recommend a minimum of 3 nights.

I’ve been asked if I felt safe in Istanbul, and I did. I went with a friend but did spend one of the days/evenings exploring the city by myself.

The public transport is great, and cheap! Uber is also a reasonably cheap way of getting around.

I went in May, and it was the perfect weather for exploring – not too hot during the day, and a little cooler in the evening.

The free European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) has been replaced with the new UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC). If your EHIC is in date, it can still be used.

Happy clients 😊

I loved putting together this trip for Claire and Stephen. They stayed at two fabulous hotels during their 10-night Oman adventure. Four nights at The Chedi Muscat, and six at the Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah, Muscat. I also included car hire so they could do some sightseeing.

Istanbul 🇹🇷🧿

If you've been following my stories, you'll have seen that I was in Istanbul last week.

We arrived in the evening, so the first night we just headed out for dinner at GRACE Rooftop Restaurant. It had amazing views of Sultanahmet Mosque (Blue Mosque) and Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque. There was a premium on prices because of the location, but it was so worth it, the food was delicious!!

The first full day was a busy one. We met our guide at the Obelisk of Theodosius in Sultanahmet Square, where there are remnants of the ancient Hippodrome of Constantinople. The hipperdrome would have been used for gladiator games, chariot races, etc.

The walking tour was approx. 2 hours and included visits to Sultanahmet Mosque (Blue Mosque), Arasta Bazaar, Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque, Hürrem Sultan Hammam (Turkish Bath), Topkapi Palace, Ottoman Mansions Street and Basilica Cistern. It was really informative and great for us to get our bearings on the first day.

When the tour finished, we headed to the Seven Hills Hotel. There is a great restaurant on the roof and more amazing views of Sultanahmet Mosque (Blue Mosque) and Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque.

After lunch, we visited Six Senses Kocataş Mansions, İstanbul for a hotel inspection. The hotel was absolutely stunning - I'll do a separate post about this.

We ended our day with some dinner, a cup of tea and baklava, and an early night 😴

Coral Beach Hotel & Resort 🇨🇾

I recently had the opportunity to spend a few days at Coral Beach Hotel & Resort in Cyprus.

Nestled in Coral Bay, the hotel is around 40 minutes from Paphos Airport.

The hotel grounds are absolutely stunning, and although it is a big resort, it doesn't feel it.

The hotel is Premium All-inclusive and there is a choice of 8 restaurants. The food at the fine dining restaurant, Romazzino is fantastic!

There are great facilities for children, including a kids club, crèche, water slides, and water sports.

There is a lovely spa - I had the best massage. And the gym has a sea view.

If you're thinking of getting married in Cyprus, then Coral Beach is a great option, with a choice of stunning locations around the resort.

A couple of euros will get you to the harbour by bus, which you can get just outside the hotel. Alternatively, taxis are readily available.
There are bars, shops, and restaurants within walking distance of the hotel, if you don't fancy venturing out too far.

If your passport is due to expire soon and you're thinking of renewing, then doing it before 11 April 2024 will save you a few quid.

Passport prices are set to increase from 11 April 2024 (subject to parliamentary approval).

Online application:
Adult £82.50 to £88.50 (+£6)
Child £53.50 to £57.50 (+£4)

Paper form (standard):
Adult £93 to £100 (+£7)
Child £64 to £69 (+£5)

Fast track (one-week service):
Adult £155 to £166.50 (+£11.50)
Child £126 to £135.50 (+£9.50)

The same fees apply regardless of whether you're applying for your first passport, a renewal, or to replace a lost, stolen, or damaged passport.

Valiant Lady ❤️ I have had the BEST week on Valiant Lady. This was my first ever cruise and I was pretty sure cruising wasn't for me, but how wrong I was!
