Tyn y Simdde - Secluded Welsh Holiday Cottage Tyn-y-Simdde has been sold to new owners, you can still book through Under the Thatch at https://www.underthethatch.co.uk/tys Once experienced, never forgotten.

Tyn-y-Simdde is a traditional Welsh farmhouse, thought to date back to the 1700s. The cottage is tucked away on a hillside overlooking the beautiful Hermon Valley, in southern Snowdonia, at the heart of the world-renowned walking and cycling area of Coed y Brenin. Saved from almost certain destruction in the 1950s, Tyn-y-Simdde has been in the same family ever since. Now lovingly restored, it is a

peaceful, comfortable retreat amongst magical surroundings. During the day, there are stunning views over the surrounding mountains, and plenty of walks straight from the cottage door. A short stroll away is the Gwynfynydd goldmine, once the centre of the Welsh gold rush, and which mined the same seam of gold used to make the ring Prince William gave to Catherine in Westminster Abbey. At night, with only a few other houses in the valley, you can see stars and shooting stars like you’ve never seen before. All in a silence broken only by the sound of owls, and the local deer coming down from the forest to graze. Whether for enjoying the countryside, a romantic hideaway, or simply getting away from it all, Tyn-y-Simdde is truly unique!

We are awaiting the announcement by Mark Drakeford today about reopening self catering accommodation, we are expecting to take guests again from 13th July. Now that the 5 mile limit is lifted we can finally get to Tyn y Simdde to start getting it back into shape. The garden seems to have grown a bit.

Heavy snowfall this morning meant we had to wait til this afternoon and then get as close as we could in the car and walk the rest of the way to do the cleaning, then carry all the washing back up the hill. Conditions improved later so our current guests were able to get there.
