Arlington National Cemetery Virginia Arlington was on the way to the airport so I thought I would pay homage to America’s fallen as I passed by, presumably for a short visit. Curiously the lady who issued my ticket wished me ‘an enjoyable visit’, a salutation which one hopes she doesn’t issue to all visitors! It was all impressive, serene, imposing and enormous. Thanks We had a diverting hour or so visiting the Four Corners Monument on the way to our overnight stop in Farmington New Mexico. We were in Arizona now, traversing quick, wide single-lane black-tops while passing some interesting Buttes (isolated hills with step or sheer sides, and a flat top) as we arrived at the only place in America where four states meet in the one point. The rock formations become more spectacular and the signs of habitation more sparse as you wind your way down Highway 191 till at last you come to a rather dilapidated trading post. Thanks The Moab Springs Ranch is actually self-catering cabins but they turned out to be a splendid choice. Perched on a hill opposite some dramatic looking hills, we had loads of room, a kitchen area, fridge, a shower area larger than many European countries, and a veranda. [ 348 more words ]

Apart from commuting any Custodial Sentences for disrespect Governor Herbert did us another favour. We went along to the Thursday night Mormon Tabernacle Choir rehearsal. As our new pal The Governor had just brought 600 of his best friends to a recital beforehand, the choir was dressed in its full performance regalia, an added bonus. The rehearsal was held in the small Conference Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. [ 457 more words ]

The taxi driver who took us into town was keen to tell us that in 2018 Salt Lake City International Airport was rated the 24th best airport in the USA. We had just connected in the nightmare that is Dallas Fort Worth and it is rated 4th, so small, accessible Salt Lake was far higher in our estimation! I’d visited Salt Lake City (SLC) before and enjoyed it so I was not that worried by the typical response from friends and colleagues on staying for four nights in SLC; “What do you want to go there for?” was the universal reaction.
