Just a group of friends who own Land Rovers and love travel. ‘Land Rover Adventures’ is no one person or a specific group of people. We have a core group of members spread over the UK, from Cornwall to Scotland.
As for cars, the first requirement is that it must be a Land/Range Rover. It should be reliable (as reliable as any Land Rover can be) and should be capable of driving at the speed limits of Europe – so able to sit comfortably at 80 MPH safely for hours. Realistically this should allow all Green Ovals from Defenders to Freelanders to join us!
We love to travel, sometimes solo, sometimes one or two of us and sometimes as a group. Travelling as a group brings a whole new dynamic as does travelling with new people. There is security when travelling to remote areas as a group and there are new ideas, opinions and conversations when meeting new people.
Where?
Our foreign adventures always start in the UK – usually with a dash to Folkestone. From there; wherever the road takes us. Realistically most of us have jobs, so we’re limited to where we can get to in 5 days (5 days there also means 5 days to get back!). Chernobyl, Ukraine took us 4 days to get to for example. Gibraltar, is 3 days, Italy, 2.
Sometimes our trips involve small villages and wilderness, sometimes we head towards a city. Perhaps we go for the scenery of a whole country or maybe to see a specific historical landmark. Reasons for ‘where’ are countless and we’re always looking for new and exciting destinations and always open to suggestions and ideas!
When?
Our long 10 day adventures tend to be between Christmas and New Year as this is naturally the time when most people can easily get time off. Other than that, we love snow – so tend to go and find some before it thaws early in the year too.
Trips down to Spain, Gibraltar, Italy & Morocco tend to happen in the summer to get the finest weather. Chernobyl, Tromsø & Romania are winter trips as they are also the longer ones. We can do the Alps in a long weekend or maybe the German Black Forest or Austria. Perhaps northern Spain through the Pyrenees, Thursday night, back Monday night for example.
