The Sidewalk Surfer 2nd Generation has landed. 12mm Baltic birch ply deck shaped by Emma Jones at Lydwood, Forest of Dean, 3rd generation wood machinist. Her grandfather Robert Jones produced Great Britain's first mass produced skateboard deck in 1977/78 (FLYER) and Nick has been shaping decks for Still Stoked since 1997. The 12mm Sidewalk Surfer is the progressive model which since 2012 I have only made a small number. The decks are 2 coat lacquered/varnished. I then take them to Jason Palmer at Five Valley Signs and Labels, Stonehouse where the latest UV printing technology has turned them into real beauties. The iconic Gerry Lopez inspired lightning bolt has been the central graphic since I designed the Sidewalk Surfer in 2012 (loads of images in the photo albums). The underside Palm tree StillStoked graphic by Tea Wright also since 2012 is released for these progressive 12mm Sidewalk Surfers. Mounted on hardware from Shiner DSTREET with a front CX type truck the ride is fluid, carvey and very responsive. I have spent two summers riding this 12mm progressive and it is great fun, works like a surfboard and is a brilliant tarmac surfer. This is not a Carver type board it is designed to respond to the body moves of a longboard surfer on a green wave. A chilled, no pressure fun surfsk8 longboard for surf orientated longboard skating. without overstating it I have used the term surfsk8 at Still Stoked since the beginning pre 1997 not surf skate, I leave that to the mass producers. A couple of tasters here going with me to Llangennith this week.
Oh Ye I nearly forgot, look out for my new cool 2006 VW T5 with added logos and graphics done by the Five Valley Signs and Labels team today!
All pics taken in bad light today.
