Behind the scenes look as I get the guest goodie boxes ready!
We like to make our four legged and human guests feel as welcome as possible - here’s how.

New @smugglersinnpub upstairs bar - doesn’t it look fab?
I had planned to take a photo of my pizza 🍕 and wine with Lisa @roseworth.rhb but we were so busy talking we forgot to take any pics 🙈
Hats off to the owner Phil and the graft he’s put in to having it open for summer and the main bar has had a total renovation too.
Definitely worth a look when you’re in the Bay and definitely when you’re at Sunnyside as it’s only about 14 steps away!

Yay sunshine time at last!
Follow Patch round the cobbled streets and to the beach 🏖️

Getting the cottage ready for a VIP who arrived today!
I was going to do a ‘watch me get the cottage ready’ video but I looked like such a sweaty 🥵 mess and you could see far too much of my grey roots and bum!
So I thought I’d share the finished look instead as well as the reading we have here at Sunnyside - a fine selection of chick lit and dog training books!

“From the moment I opened the door I fell in love with Sunnyside and it’s quaint charm.
“It’s beautifully appointed and it’s clear to see the owners have thought of everything.
“A welcome basket greeted us with personalised card, biscuits, dog treats, dog poo bags, and other local produce…
“I’m so glad that I finally got a chance to experience Robin Hood’s Bay and I couldn’t have wished for a better place to have stayed and experienced than Sunnyside Cottage.”
Thank you Scott @scottantcliffephoto for this wonderful review and for bringing your lovely girl Drift to stay with us, and this review for @dogfriendlyinfo magazine.
Your kind words mean the world and we’re honoured that the cottage is part of your memories together.

Can you spot anything new?
Here’s a clue 🪟 and another 🛌
We’ve been sprucing things up at the cottage over the weekend - let us know if you spot the difference.
There’s lots happening at Sunnyside later this year, and while I can’t change the furniture and carpets until the big work is finished, I do my best to make it as nice and comfortable as possible.
As always, thanks to Sian and Sam @baytownholidaycottages for helping make any improvements happen! 🪄

Where to take your bin bags 🚮 when you stay at Sunnyside 🗑️
This is by far the most boring but necessary post I’ve done since opening…
We don’t have an outside bin at Sunnyside, there’s a big one for recycling in the cupboard and a small one for rubbish under the sink, and if you need to empty either, this is how you get to the bin store.
Come out of the door, turn right ➡️, walk to the end of the street, down the steps, turn right ➡️ and the big building is the bin store.
Extra bin bags are in the cupboard above the sink.
Normal posting about dogs, cushions and the beach will now resume!

Happy birthday to us! 🎉
It’s a year to the day we got the keys for Sunnyside. 🏡
And my dream for Patch to have his own holiday cottage came true! 🐾
I also wanted to create a truly dog welcoming place for other dogs too but very much Patch.
These photos are from our first day 🥳 and we want to say a few thank yous (sorry for going a bit Gwyneth)
Sam and Sian @baytownholidaycottages for putting up with my endless questions and quirky requests 🙏
Kim @leo_charley_and_me for making two sets of bespoke bow ties, bandanas and collar flowers for our gorgeous guests 🌸
Kerry @fur_and_fables for the photos 📸
The amazing journalists, bloggers and social media superstars who have written about us and got the word out there about Sunnyside 🌟
Every one of you who has booked a stay, told a friend about us, liked our posts and supported us 👍
The fab pet businesses who make awesome products that we have at Sunnyside - there are so many things for our guests to try!
The tradepeople who have been out to help us - especially when the boiler packed up! 🔧
Patch and I are very excited about what’s in store for the next 12 months 🐾🎉
Thank you again so much for your support, it means the world xx
What’s Robin Hood’s Bay like for Whippets?
Let’s hand over to the Whippet Queen, Debbie from @redhoundfordogs and human to these pups George and Winnie…
“Sunnyside Cottage was the most welcoming place to stay, especially when we’d lit the log burner and poured ourselves a glass of wine.
“The stairs are steep and winding, even I hit my head once, and I’m short.
“Dogs are allowed upstairs and on the sofas - blankets are provided which made the stay more relaxed.
“There’s no garden, but you can easily access a field within two minutes of the front door.
“We walked some beautiful tracks, Cinder Trail is pretty flat but coastal path is not!
“We ate at Brambles Bistro, a short stumble from the cottage door, dog welcoming and the most amazing food. Whitby is lovely for an amble around and the local fish and chips did not disappoint.
“In the village of Robin Hoods Bay you need to park the car at the top of the village and walk down, but can bring the car down to load and unload, we don’t travel very light, so Mr Redhound got his step count up at both ends of our stay!”
Thanks Debbie, Winnie and George and Mr Redhound for coming to stay and supporting Sunnyside and providing these fab photos and videos too.
We love Whippets here and if you’ve any questions about staying with yours, drop me a line or ask Debbie too!

We took a walk the left hand side of the beach this morning and we had it all to ourselves 😊
Happy Patch with his ball - this is definitely worth getting up early for! ⏰

Today is a special day for dogs who don’t feel confident around other pups and people and who are anxious - #DogsInYellow day.
You may have seen lots of posts on social media about - which is good because the wonderful lady on the video Sarah @myanxiousdog has made it her mission to educate owners that if a dog is in yellow, they need space.
She’s the owner of an anxious dog, Bella, a Cocker Spaniel, and started making ‘anxious’ and ‘keep away’ products to help her, and it grew into her making items to make life less stressful for dogs all over the world 🌍
I see a lot of dogs wearing yellow in the Bay, a sign it’s a welcoming place and owners know that people will be considerate, which is so good to see.
We have Sarah’s harnesses, lead and lead cover in the cottage in case anyone needs them, and I’ll link to a full interview with her so you can learn all about her work in our stories.
The message is if you see a dog in yellow, give them space.
And if you have a dog who would like other dogs and humans to keep away, wearing yellow isn’t labelling them, it’s showing you love them 🤗
Happy #dogsinyellow💛 day to all the lovely dogs and well done Sarah for all the work you do.
When you see a dog wearing yellow, do you know what it means?
It's to signal they're anxious, and most likely don't want to be approached by other dogs, people or children (even if they are really cute)
Tomorrow is #DogsInYellow day, created by Sarah Jones who is the owner of an anxious and very cute dog Bella, and who was inspired to create a range of yellow, space awareness products for her own dog.
When she saw the change it made for Bella, Sarah went on a mission to get the message out there to other dog owners, and to make life less stressful for anxious dogs by providing them with yellow accessories too My Anxious Dog UK as well as awareness packs with all kinds of things on from posters to poo bin stickers.
Now, yellow is recognised globally, and I spoke to Sarah about her work and why she's really keen for dog-friendly places to help spread the word ahead of her day tomorrow.
At Sunnyside, we have yellow accessories you can try, and if you like them, head to www.myanxiousdog.co.uk for all you need.
If you see a dog in yellow, do you know it means they need space?
One of our friends is Sarah from @myanxiousdog and she’s on a mission to make walks less stressful for shy, nervous and reactive dogs.
She does this by making yellow, space awareness products like leads, lead slips and harnesses and we have all three if you’d like to try them out at Sunnyside.
It’s great when people do, because it means the word is getting out there.
This week her #DogsInYellow day is happening on Wednesday, and we chatted to her about what it’s all about - and why being able to borrow yellow gear can be the first step to less stress on walks.
Come for a porter around the Bay with us…
Aren’t they such pretty streets?
Do you have a favourite?

Look at these two gorgeous Spaniels Morgan and Minnie 🥰
We love seeing the dogs enjoying themselves at Sunnyside and big thanks to their fab mum Becky @meet__the__sprockers for these snaps!
There are more to follow and this is what she said about their stay: “Never before have our two dogs been made so welcome in someone else’s home.
“The lack of rules and regulations in this cottage is a breath of fresh air and Rachel has thought of everything to make holidaying with dogs at Sunnyside an enjoyable and relaxing experience.
“Everything that we could have possibly needed for our dogs was on hand (dog beds, towels, toys, totally beautiful dog bowls … the list goes on) and the dogs enjoyed being able to be with us wherever we were in the house.”
Such kind feedback and please come back soon Becky, Morgan and Minnie and Mr Sprocker!
PS - totally beautiful bowls are @albiesboutique
PPS - if you’ve got FOMO head to @baytownholidaycottages for availability and to book!
