One of the many stone bridges in the Zagori area in Epirus, Greece. The topography of the area which made transportation difficult made their construction necessary. Characterised by elegance and simplicity at the same time and harmoniously integrated within the natural environment they are samples of high craftsmanship and wealth. Their construction was sponsored by the rich locals who traditionally named them after themselves.

If you've been to Greece especially during the winter season, you might have tried 'rakomelo', a mix of tsipouro (an un-aged pomace brandy), cinnamon, cloves and honey.
To make it, the tsipouro is gently warmed with the spices and then mixed with a little honey. The resulting drink – is served in shot glasses. Cheers!

If you ever find yourselves in the town of Veroia in northern Greece, do try this local delicacy: 'revani', a semolina cake, served with 'kaimaki' ice cream which is made using milk, sugar, salep spice and mastic. Delicious!

The remains of Philippi in north-eastern Greece. The city, founded by Philip II in 356 BC, became very important during the Roman times and a centre of Christian faith and pilgrimage deriving from the visit of the Apostle Paul in 49/50 AD.

A house in Echinos, one of the villages in the Rhodope mountain in the area of Xanthi. The main characteristic of its architectural style is the beams that support the upper floor allowing it to protrude from the external wall of a building.

Is there a 'Parthenon' in northern Greece? Yes, there is! Not a monument, of course, but a tiny village carrying this historical name somewhere on the second 'leg' of Chalkidiki peninsula. If you happen to travel to Chalkidiki, also the birthplace of philosopher Aristotel, Parthenonas is worth a visit or just a stop for a coffee under this extremely old olive tree!

It is Thessaloniki, indeed, on an extremely foggy day sometime in the winter of 1987.
