An awesome and challenging assent on our recent Blencathra Guided Walk with an amazing group of people 🤙

Blue skys for the approach to one of our favourite ridges in the Lake District, Halls Fell, quickly turned to low cloud cover and strong winds on the summit.

The Lake District weather can change so quickly, that's why it's essential to pack warm clothing and waterproofs even on the sunniest of days which can be layered up quickly.

Our "how far have you travelled to get here today" record was also broken, not once, but twice in a single day. With Hamburg, Germany🇩🇪 taking the top spot for our first guest only but be blown out the park by Vietnam 🇻🇳!

A July Helvellyn climb which more resembled the middle of Winter as we climbed up into the clouds. ☁️🥾

The low lying cloud just teasing each of the ridges on the approach, for an epic day in the mountains.

Think we have a new record for the fastest group we have ever taken over Helvellyn this year 🏃🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

Over Striding Edge hitting the peak under 2 hours. Then across Swirral Edge and back to the vans all under 4 hours!

A incredible day had by all and our mountain leader Fitzy definitely got put through his paces 🥵😂

What an incredible weekend on Helvellyn with an amazing group of people ⛰️

The Lake District really spoiled us, with the Northern Lights out in full force Friday, followed by blue skies, no wind and 22º all day! What dreams are made of! 😍

We literally couldn't of hoped for a better day 🤙

Bit of a change for last weekend as our Helvellyn climb had to be postponed due to extremely high winds, making it unsafe to cross the exposed Edges 💨
So everyone's journey was not wasted, we instead stayed low level exploring the incredible Cathedral Caves. A fully walkable cave network with the main chamber standing over 40ft in height!
Always a great option with a circular route to keep in mind if the weather isn't playing ball, but you still want to get out and explore.

What a way to kick off the season with our Introduction to Navigation course 🧭
Couple of drop offs due to the poor forecasts, gave us a small group size, allowing us to really deep dive into individual pace lengths and using bearings.
The sun gods were also upon us, lighting up the stunning Langdale Valley, as we navigated through our route.

2023 wasn't our best year, with several funding bids declined, our services declined also, we saw the fells with a few clients from previous years, but stayed rather quiet which slowed the movement further. In recent news we've been successful on a bid, from the national lottery funding scheme 🎉

This news allows movement throughout 2024, and once again we walk together through the storm. Our footsteps in Joe's name never ceased, but now we get to share them again.

Also within 2 days of receiving funding, we received a gift from Brian O'Neils will by Ali son. Brian was quite an outdoorsman, and this donation not only supports the cause, it supports Brian's life choices of which he chose to enjoy, and understood the power that the outdoors possesses.

A massive thank you to all who have donated and those also keeping the team morale up throughout the year, behind closed doors we've seen a lot of help from those around us.

We're looking forward to the year ahead, and we hope this news fills you all with the same joy that we received 💜

Fridays Blencathra challenge got the adrenaline pumping 🥾⛰️
A brilliant scramble up Hall's Fell ridge underneath the cloud base with great visibility got the day started, but with growing wind 🍃 strengths and rain 🌧️ threats we curved the decision to tackle sharp edge due to more exposure, less room for error and other hightened risk factors on the day.
Nevertheless we had a great ascent of Hall's Fell, topping out straight onto the summit of Blencathra, a really good scramble that satisfied the loss of the second ridge, but gave us enough to know we'd had a good day, and made the right decision.
We have no more Blencathra dates 🗓️ this season, but keep your eyes peeled and next years calendar will be on the site very soon!

Sundays introduction to navigation course landed perfectly with the weather, a predicted rainy weekend, but barely any rain in sight 🧭
With a nice bit of theory before set off, we got to grips with map features, compass properties and a general chat of the Lake District before exploring Langdale, noting ground features, attack points and gaining a visual on the mornings theory session.
Another great day spent in the outdoors helping others achieve new skills for future outings and curving bad decision making in the hills when adventuring. Lowering potential of bad decisions puts voluntary services such as mountain rescue at lower risk.
Just two more navigation courses to go this season, looking forward to seeing and teaching more humans how to stay safe in the hills.

Great weather pulled through for Fridays ascent of Helvellyn with a quiet ridge to match. ⛰️🌤️
A large contrast of colours seen throughout with great visibility across to southern Scotland, proved for a brilliant day to be spent outdoors on one of Britain's favourite mountain walks.
We also summited the optional Catstye Cam after the descent of Swirral Edge for Ullswater views with a panoramic dream.
We have one final date for Helvellyn left this season so don't miss out!

Navigation in sunny Langdale with a few extra clouds. Another great day spent learning and affirming navigational skills to hone forwards, with a predicted high downfall morning, the rain held off rather well for us. With a fast learning group we got straight into the navigation legs after some morning theory under shelter.

The day consisted of chasing waterfalls, steep ground management, how to manage safe river crossings and a constant flow of mountain knowledge shared between the group.

A great day spent in Langdale with awesome company, thanks again to the attendees of the course 🧭🗺️🏞️

Conquering Helvellyn should be on everyone's bucket list, and on Friday we did just that. With a low cloud base to start and winds fading off throughout the morning, we opted for the café for half an hour with a hot drink to allow the weather it's time to pass before starting the day. After starting the edge with little visibility, the clouds lifted and the objective was revealed!

A great day spent on the edges of Helvellyn with even better company! And another day to remember for a lifetime, as the core memory locks in!

We're back on here on the 21st of July, and if the predictions are correct, the heatwave will be with us,

Helvellyn Awakens provided the goods a few weeks back, an early start, for a mesmerising summit, the best way to start a day 🌄 As we basked in the golden hour light, the colours got better and better, a true visual experience and a day that will never be forgotten, thankyou Helvellyn ⛰️

Did somebody say Helvellyn? Another day another ridge, with brilliant weather to match and company that will not be forgotten.

Blessed with rays from above and extensive visibility we completed the ridge from Glenridding, taking in the scenic landscape whilst circulating adrenaline all under the watchful eyes of ourself.

With summer officially starting in 2 days, we look forward to a season of dry rock, more sunny times and more core lifetime memories made outdoors for others completing achievements and stretching the comfort zone.
