Those fish nuggets - my new favourite thing!
Passionate about all things food & drink, here in Sussex and across the UK. Reviews & other foodie pieces from Food & Drink Editor at Platinum Business Mag
Cooking, researching and reading about food, restaurants, hotels and bars has been a lifelong hobby. After early work in bars and some waitressing I started my career working as a retail manager at Harrods. This was a natural step as someone who has always been passionate about the customer experience. It was a great foundation in how to run a business based on creating the very best in Customer s
ervice. In my later career in HR including as Director of a large consumer business, my role was to ensure we had the right teams in place with the right tools and leadership to provide the highest standards of customer care. After all this is central to the success of any business. This perspective and focus on the customer remains a central thread in all that I do. As a result, I have extremely high standards and attention to detail. Through my work and hobby, I have been lucky enough to stay and dine in some of the best venues in the world. I admire those venues that know how to create a memorable experience and make the customer feel valued and I understand how to recruit, train and motivate staff to do so. With the right formula its within the reach of most establishments and yet so many seem to neglect this aspect. Of course front of house is only one part of the puzzle. Food, drink, ambience and environment all combine to create a memorable experience. Obviously these can vary in style from fine dining to street food – regardless, attention to detail and a focus on the customer should remain ever present. Here at PeoplePlacesFood, we will bring you independent unbiased reviews of what’s on offer here in Sussex but also elsewhere. Unlike other local on-line dining guides, we don’t take money for featuring venues. I will also provide links to other good on-line resources so that this becomes a bit of a one stop shop for all you passionate foodies out there and I know there are many! I love talking about food and drink and travel so do please get in touch and share your views. Please do feel free to post comments and email any questions. Happy dining.

Now that's what you call a good breakfast
Last month, I delighted in etch.’s guinea fowl dish with charred gem lettuce and an intense chickeny jus as well as a simple lunch of pan fried sea bream, crispy squid ink gnocchi, crispy squid, samphire and bisque at Plateau.

A Month In Food Reviews: March 2017 Featuring: Pascere, Steven Edwards's etch., Matt Gillan's Red Roaster and Plateau.
“And the service? It was totally spot on. And this isn’t a given. Often in two Michelin starred venues service can be overly attentive or stuffy. Here it was friendly, relaxed and just attentive enough. And that’s not easy to pull off.”
Did you see my review of The Ledbury last month? See below for my thoughts on the food, wine and service:
"..starting to ponder what we would have after our champagne, the sommelier appeared with the wine list. This intuitive service is what separates the best."
So what have I been eating?
March was a month of trying out new restaurants etch. from Steven Edwards in Hove and Chef Matt Gillan’s Redroaster Coffee in Kemptown, and of course featured my continuing favourite Plateau.

Read on below for when Nick Mosley of Brighton & Hove Food and Drink Festival caught up with the La Choza business partners Aoife Sweeney and Annie Gelpey.
"If I could go back to when we started La Choza, I’d say to myself that we should have more faith and get a much bigger venue."
"We ended the evening at a wine bar ‘Bouzy’ (genius name) where I enjoyed a Grand Cru growers Champagne by the glass and then a beautiful Cabernet Franc (one of my favourite grapes)..."
Catch my food diary last month? Trips to The Hague and Sweden included fab visits to Bouzy, wine & food, Publique, and Dorsia Hotel & Restaurant.
