Icelandic food.
So many things surprised me in Iceland, the food being one of them, I didn’t know what to expect. We flew with Iceland Air and the meal onboard was delicious. Our first experience was so good and this continued throughout the holiday.

The food in Iceland is said to be among the healthiest in the world. With the crystal-clear water and air, freely grazing sheep and cows, the wild fish and chemical free plants all make amazing ingredients in some of the most delicious food we’ve ever eaten.

The highlight for us was the Arctic Char, it has a similar taste and look to Salmon and we were able to try it various different ways.

There wasn’t anything we wouldn’t order again apart from the fermented shark which my husband did try, the smell was enough to put me off! (It was a teeny tiny piece in the sealed jar)

On our last evening we booked a Walking Food tour. Our brilliant host Minty took us to five different eateries which were all lovely and throughout the evening we learnt a lot about the city and its traditions and ate so much food! All of the restaurants we visited are frequented by locals so we felt we were getting a really authentic experience (I’d recommend doing this earlier on in your stay as it’s a great way to get your bearings in Reykjavik)

Make sure you don’t go for a massive meal at lunchtime before going on this tour as there is so much food included.

Blue Lagoon

'Some people came to the water for healing. Others for pleasure. But all who came, left with a profound sense of wonder'

A visit to the Blue Lagoon is a must for everyone that visits Iceland.
I’d recommend booking the Premium package which includes your entry, Silica mud mask, two additional masks of your choice, use of towel, 1st drink of your choice, slippers, use of bathrobe and one glass of sparkling wine if you dine at the Lava Restaurant.

The most obvious difference between the two is the colour of the water at the Blue Lagoon, which is a milky blue colour due to the Silica content. The minerals in the water are said to have healing properties and can benefit a range of ailments.

After exploring the pool we had our first face mask, the Black Lava Scrub which exfoliates and renews the skin. The second face mask, the white Silica Mud purifies the skin and the third one was the Green Algae Mask which boosts the skins glow and reduces fine lines. (my favourite)

It was great fun putting the masks on, waiting for them to dry before washing them off under an Ice cold water tap which was surprisingly refreshing.

With the Premium Package you can make a reservation in the Lava Restaurant which has an amazing view of the Lagoon. I loved that you could eat in your robe and go back into the Lagoon afterwards. The restaurant has a fine dining feel and the food was impeccable. I'll talk about the food in Iceland and what to expect in a later post.

Don’t be put off by the threat of crowds at the Blue Lagoon as it's such a large place you can easily escape and find a quiet area if you wanted to.

My overall opinion is, if you have time do both the Blue Lagoon and the Sky Lagoon.

They were both really special experiences and I wouldn't have wanted to miss either however I think for me the Sky Lagoon had the edge with their 7 step ritual.

Sky Lagoon or Blue Lagoon?
I honestly don't think you can’t compare the two, they are very different and both amazing!

On entering the Sky Lagoon you instantly feel the warmth of the water which is a constant 38-40 degrees. It's such a lovely feeling especially when the outside temperature is so cold.

When you enter the water you walk between high lava rock walls, then as you turn the corner the walls and pool open up to the most fabulous view of the Atlantic Ocean in the bay and the mountains in the distance. The view is beautiful and just as lovely in the dark with the twinkly lights of the city in the distance. It has been known for people to see the Northern Lights from the Lagoon on a clear night.

The infinity pool is a great addition, it’s hard to see where the water of the pool and the Atlantic Ocean meet.

If you’re planning on visiting I’d recommend getting the Pure Pass which includes the seven-step Ritual.

Step One - Settle into the Lagoon and enjoy the healing warm water.
Step Two - Immerse yourself into a freezing cold plunge pool, it’ll stimulate your immune system, increase blood flow and tighten the skin! (My feet and ankles enjoyed this pool, that was enough for me)
Step Three - Is 5-10 mins in a Sauna with the most incredible view through the largest single window in Iceland.
Step Four - Balance the heat from the Sauna by stepping into a cold fog-mist space.
Step Five was my favourite - Cover yourself in the most amazing signature Sky Body Scrub, it feels and smells divine.
Step Six - Is the Steam Room, which maximises the benefits of the Sky Body scrub.
Step Seven - Shower in a pure, gentle shower.
I can honestly say my skin has never felt so good.

Once you’ve completed the seven steps you can go back into the main Sky Lagoon pool to enjoy the rest of your time. The bar sells Beer, Wine & Champagne plus non alcoholic drinks.

If you have time do make sure you include this in your itinerary it was a very special experience and one we will never forget.

Exciting Enquiries.

This week my inbox has been flooded with enquiries to the USA. From long weekends in New York over Christmas 2021 and the school holidays next year to Fly Drives exploring Miami and down to the Florida Keys.

When planning a holiday to the USA I work closely with my clients to make sure they have an itinerary that suits their requirements exactly.

Accommodation:
Maybe you'd prefer a smaller more traditional hotel in one destination and a larger resort in another.

Extras:
I have access to some unique Excursions & Attraction tickets which can be added to the itinerary at any point.

Flights:
Most people have a preference with which Airline they fly with but I'll always check the alternatives to make sure you have access to the most competitive rates.

All of the above can be packaged together with our ATOL license which gives you peace of mind when booking your holiday.

Is the USA at the top of your list?
Please get in touch to start planning today.

Loving London.

It's been a very long time since I was a tourist in London, in fact I'm not sure I've ever really been one. I've worked and lived there but have never just enjoyed exploring and taking the opportunity to stop whenever we wanted to have a drink or something to eat. I spent two days doing exactly this at the end of September with my Mum and one of my Sisters and had such a lovely weekend.

This was the view from our hotel which was a fantastic surprise. We stayed at the Park Plaza County Hall, perfectly situated on the Southbank . The staff were great fun and we were really well looked after, I can't recommend it enough, the view is pretty good too! (Also a great option if visiting with Children)

The other highlights were a visit to the which was fascinating. Dinner which is by far the best Indian food I've had in a long time (I'd recommend booking a table in advance as the walk in queue was 2 hours long) and of course Afternoon Tea in their room which was a real treat.

If you are looking for a quick escape to the city let me know and I'll help you find the right hotel to suit you.

Experience the sensation of true freedom on the open road on this adventure entirely of your own choosing in an iconic VW campervan.
Whether you take the camper van for a couple of nights to explore the stunning scenery of the Lake District, or you decide to go a bit further afield, this is one adventure that will live long in the memory.

Pick up your campervan from your starting point just outside the Lakes and the Yorkshire Dales, and from there, it’s totally up to you where you travel.

Head to the Lakes and cruise through mountain scenery, stopping for hikes wherever you feel like it and camping in gorgeous beauty spots, or within handy reach of a great local pub.

Choose from three beautiful campervans;
Heidi - Heidi is the youngest (newest) in the fleet – a newly refurbished, 2012 VW campervan in a fetching shade of green. She comes with everything you need to have an incredible journey around the Lake District in total comfort, including a kitchen, heating, power sockets, a fridge, and a rear showerhead.

Winnie - Winnie is our bright, cheerful orange campervan, kept in incredible condition since she was manufactured in 1971. She’s a 4 birth camper and comes with a heater, a mains hook up, a fully equipped kitchen and fridge, and a gas cooker.

Daisy - Our very first campervan, Daisy is a summery shade of yellow and was also built in 1971. Newly refurbished, she comes with all the same amenities as Winnie, and is the perfect vehicle for your adventures around the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales, and beyond.

If you've always dreamt of owning a campervan why not rent one for a few days on the open road!

Now more than ever my clients are looking for experiential holidays not just for themselves but also for their children.

This week I booked a lovely family with two young children on a Norweigen Fjords Cruise with P&O on their newest ship Iona.

There is so much on board to keep little ones entertained for those days you’re at sea and guests can get back to nature on these five family-friendly shore experiences that will help them reconnect with the natural world – and with each other.

Explore the Atlantic - The Atlantic Sea-Park, Ålesund, is one of Europe’s largest saltwater aquariums, is built into the coastline and offers scenic views across the ocean to the nearby islands. Gaze into 11 large landscape aquariums filled with north Atlantic sea life from various ocean depth.

Live the farm life - Embrace the traditional way of life in rural Norway on the Øvre-Eide Farm and Sweet Treats shore experience. The farm is located in the idyllic countryside just outside Bergen. Upon arrival, visitors will receive a warm welcome from the family who are in their fifth generation of running the farm, which dates back to the 1500s.

Hit the beach - Fjords likely spring to mind first when thinking of Norway’s coast, but the country also boasts a surprising selection of beautiful sandy beaches. Sola Beach – Stavanger’s Riviera – is a 2.3km-long stretch of sand that begs to be explored.

Come face to face with a glacier - Get up close and personal with one of nature’s most breathtaking wonders on the Briksdal Glacier by Troll Car shore experience.

Float through a Fjord - Guests can connect with the wilderness in a fun and relaxing way as they explore the waters of the Geirangerfjord – one of Mother Nature’s masterpieces – on the Geirangerfjord Kayaking adventure.

If you've been thinking about booking a Cruise with your family but need help to find the right Cruise for you please get in touch.

If you’re thinking of going abroad next summer especially, I’d recommend booking as soon as possible as the demand is going to be high which has a direct affect on availability.

As well as being able to act as a tour operator by building a package for you I’m able to sell third party suppliers such as Easyjet Holidays who have a great product in Europe.

I recently booked a family of five on an Easyjet holiday to Crete for August 2022. I was able to take the stress out of finding suitable accommodation by doing the searching for them, I offered a couple of options and they settled on a lovely apart-hotel The Elounda Garden Suites in a two bedroom suite. You can decide whether to book B&B or Self catering and the flights and private transfers are included in the cost.

This luxurious aparthotel enjoys a fantastic position just 150 metres from Elounda's city centre and a stone's throw from a sandy beach, where visitors can relax laying under the sun or just unwinding after the day's hustle and bustle.

Surrounded by a marvellous garden, this premium accommodation is a great option when visiting the island. All studios show a modern and elegant style with white-washed facilities and state-of-the-art amenities.

Elounda Village, once a picturesque fishing village in lovely Mirabello Bay and nowadays is an ideal destination for people who want a seaside holiday in a place which is neither too busy nor too isolated, having a spectacular coastline, shaded beaches, crystal clear seas and archeological interest.

If you are a family of five struggling to find suitable accommodation or would like to find out more about a holiday to Crete please get in touch.

17/05/2021

Madeira is without doubt one of the most beautiful islands in the world and is often compared to Hawaii with it’s mountainous terrain and sub-tropical climate.

This small Portuguese island enjoys glorious temperatures all year around, even in the winter months the island is bathed in warmth and sunshine.

Take a ride on the Funchal Cable car to Monte for the incredible views and explore the exquisite Monte Palace Gardens once you reach the top. Head down the hill a more traditional way – on a toboggan. A wicker sled with wooden runners might not sound very safe but you’ll be steered by two guides with rubber-soled shoes who know what they are doing.

Explore one of the most beautiful and exotic Winegrowing Regions in the world, take a tour of one of the many vineyards famous for Madeira fortified wine which can range from Dry consumed as an aperitif to Sweet usually served with a dessert.

Or why not try their traditional cocktail ‘Poncha’
Poncha is made fresh with citrus juice, honey and aguardente or rum.

A few facts about Madeira
* The island of Madeira is closer to the coast of Africa than it is to Europe.
* The Island holds the record for the worlds largest fireworks display.
* Madeira is home to Europe’s tallest sea cliff – more than 1900ft above the sea. Take a walk on the glass skywalk at Cabo Girao if you dare!
* There are more than 25 miles of tunnels throughout the island. Most of these were built throughout the 16th Century.
* The island of Madeira has more than 1350 miles of Levadas created to transport water from the mountainous part of the island to the drier agricultural regions in the south.
* There are more than 1300 miles of Hiking trails in Madeira including a hike to the highest point on the Island, Pico Rivo.

On Friday the Government released the list of 'Green' Countries, it was shorter than I was expecting but I understand the need to take a slow and steady approach, it's important we get this right.

This week I'll highlight three of the destinations that were on the list.

My fingers were crossed for Iceland as my husband and I are due to go ourselves in July. There are quite strict testing and quarentine rules in place at the moment but this is due to be reviewed on the 01st June.

With mild temperatures and long days full of sunlight and nature in bloom, summer is an amazing time to visit Iceland.

Here is an example of an itinerary I could organise for a long weekend.

Day one - Arrive and have the afternoon to explore Reyjavik.

Day two - Relax in the Blue Lagoon, in the evening enjoy a Foodie walking tour with a local.

Day three - Take a tour of the Golden circle by Super Jeep and Snow mobile taking in the sights of Þingvellir National Park where you head inland to the highly active Geysir and hot spring area, continue on to Gulfoss one of Icelands most powerful waterfalls then to top the day off drive towards Langjökull glacier where you'll dash across the snowfields on snowmobiles while gazing at the peaks and ice surrounding you.

Day four - Take a tour of the South Coast with a hike to a naturally formed Ice cave. The day starts off in the small town of Vik where you'll meet our expert Ice Cave guide, the super jeep then takes you through the private back road through Vik to reach the Glacier. Once you reach the destination it is a 10-15 min Glacier hike across the ice to explore your first Ice cave! After some time in the main cave take another short Glacier walk to hunt for secret waterfalls and hidden Glacier canyons. On the way back to Reykjavik visit a private black sand beach (off the beaten path), as well as Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls.

How does this sound? If you've been dreaming of a trip to Iceland even for a long weekend, get in touch to find out more.

Last week I took part in some destination training on Western Australia and I was asked by Australia Tourism, if I had two weeks in Oz what would you do.

It was easy for me to decide as for the photos alone it would be a road trip along the South Western Edge.

The drive takes you from Perth through wine regions, karri forests, and along the dramatic south coast to Esperence.
This has to be Australia's most instagrammable road trip;

Drive straight to Margaret River, famous for its premium wines and beauriful scenery.
Stop at Sugarloaf rock which is great for bushwalking, bird and whale watching.
Then on to the Valley of the Giants, home to some of the worlds biggest trees, take the ariel walkway to appreciate their true height and take some breath taking photos.
Carry on to Denmark where nearby you'll find the naturally occurring, perfectly round, peppermint-tinged waters of Greens pool.
Just five minutes walk from Greens pool you'll find Elephant Rocks, so named for their likeness to a herd of Elephants walking through the water.
As you drive into Esperence you'll come across the Great Ocean Drive, 20km of stunning coastline passing more than a dozen dazzling beaches and 100 islands, you can see why it's known as Australia's most beautiful stretch of road.
It's not the end of the adventure. Take a day trip to Lucky Bay where you'll find Kangaroos on the beach and best seen from the air Lake Hillier which really is bubble-gum pink. Get the perfect shot of it's bright pink colour against the turquoise waters of the Pacific Ocean.
One natural wonder not to miss on your return to Perth that’s on most bucket lists, just four hours inland, is Wave Rock formed more than 130 million years ago!

This trip will give you more amazing images per mile than almost any other, a photographers dream!

28/04/2021

There are so many great reasons to visit Australia, it's Full of bucket list opportunities and did you know you can take a non-stop flight from Heathrow to Perth with Qantas and be there in less than 17 hours.

Perth is a beautiful city set on the Swan River, there are so many places within easy reach that have to be seen and explored. It’s hard to list them all but if you plan on only staying in Perth for a couple of days before you travel further afield make sure you squeeze in the following:

* Take a free city bus known as CAT (central area transit) jumping off at attractions such as Perth Cultural Centre or the Perth Mint.
* Head over to Kings Park one of the worlds largest inner city parks offering splendid views over the Swan River, two thirds of Kings Park is bushland making it a conservation reserve in an urban area.
* Kings Park is also home to the spectacular Western Australia Botanical Gardens which display around 3000 species of native flora.
* Dine at Perth’s edgy restaurants and café’s.
* Kick back on Rottnest Island’s beautiful beaches and meet the worlds cutest marsupial.
* Take a short Cruise up the Swan River right to the cellar door or jump on a wine tour from your city hotel.

Perth is almost unfairly blessed with extraordinary beaches and it has more sunny days than any other capital city in the world.

The top 5 beaches in Perth;

Cottesloe Beach – 20 mins drive from the city, with pure white sand.
Leighton Beach – 17 mins drive from the city, Caribbean like and perfect for paddling.
Mettams Pool – 20 mins drive from the city and great for snorkelling.
Bathers Beach – 25 mins drive from the city, the petit 300m long beach has a secluded feel.
City Beach – 15 mins drive from the city with plenty of eateries and outdoor playgrounds.

If you're thinking of planning that once in a life time trip to Australia get in touch, I can help tailor make the perfect itinerary seeing some of the worlds most incredible sights.

I'll feature a few more must see places in Western Australia later this week.

Luxury beachfront resort in Andalusia, ideal for families.
This year sees Ikos open their first hotel outside of Greece. The Ikos Andalusia is set on an exclusive, sun-drenched stretch of the Iberian Peninsula between Marbella and Estepona.

Experience their award winning Infinite Lifestyle which ensures virtually every element of your vacation is included in the original cost.

• You can expect the same array of facilities as in its sister hotels, including water sports, cycling, tennis, fitness classes, indoor and outdoor pools and a private beach area.

• Seven inspiring restaurants will offer everything from contemporary takes on local dishes to Michelin-starred seafood and Provençal dining.

• Few places offer as many activities and experiences in the overall holiday price. You’ll automatically have a MINI at your disposal for a day to explore the area, free green fee passes to enjoy a round at Los Naranjos Golf Club and complimentary tickets to attractions like Museo Picasso Malaga.

• If you’d prefer to explore the local area’s cuisine and hospitality, the popular Dine Out programme means you can venture out to carefully selected local restaurants across Marbella and Estepona at no additional cost.

As a family of five we always struggle to find accommodation, the Ikos resorts have One Bedroom suites for up to 5 and Two Bedroom suites that can accommodate 6 people, perfect for larger families.

I should be jetting off next week to visit this incredible hotel, unfortunately due to travel restrictions our holiday will have to wait. Once we're able to go I'll make sure I share my experience and photos with you.
