Rob and Richard on their first ever rock climb, in walking boots, in the rain. A bit of a test for them and their boots. It was all type 1 or type 2 fun 😀.

Jonathan and I gambled that we would find dry weather yesterday in the Cairngorms. We managed to climb on dry rock on the Twin Ribs and Fiacaill Ridge, before any rain - fantastic. Then the heavy rain started. #cairngorms #cairngormsnationalpark #cairngormsscotland #scramblingrocks #scrambling #mountaineering

Well done & thank you to Lorna yesterday for finding Mullenium (S*** 230m) in the guidebook, and suggesting it for a great day out - for a remote adventure feeling climb - that neither of us had done before. The climb is called MULLENium and Lorna’s surname is Mullen, so we obviously had to do it - and it’s such a cool route in a remote feeling location - deep in Glen Gour on Indian Slabs. We were grateful for the #corranferry and grateful for our #mountainbikes - which made the day so much easier.
We did the climb in 5 very different pitches. I didn’t enjoy the first pitch, the second was awesome, as was the third. The fourth felt like a linking pitch, but my favourite by far was the very short final slightly steeper pitch. Lorna’s favourite I think was the excellent second pitch.
Beta: I was very glad I took 60m ropes, although obviously the Route can be done with 50’s. I used every cam I took, but no hex’s or large nuts. I could have done the whole day with cams. Also I didn’t need all of my extenders - I placed 10 runners over the 230m.
A great route - thank you to Lorna for the idea and day.
Thank you to C.Moody and C.Grindley for first doing the climb in 2000.

A great day with Lena on Wednesday on Hell’s Lum. With this dry weather we could have gone almost anywhere. I’ve climbed 3 routes on Hell’s Lum in winter, but this was my first time there in summer. It’s pretty good 👍🏻☀️☀️☀️

Lorna and I had a great short day in Glen Nevis yesterday. Our third climb was Resurrection, which we’d been getting ready for with the previous climbs. It went really well, and Lorna climbed through all of the problems smoothly. Well done. Another classic Glen Nevis ✅.

I had a really good second day with Robert on Ben Nevis. We made the best of the good weather on Ledge Route. We avoided the bare rock slab by climbing up the snow slope to the narrows of No.5.

I had a good day on Beinn a’ Chaorainn yesterday. I went up to look at North Gully (thank you @onhistoesaliirose ), and ended up doing a couple of things to the left. I couldn’t find them on UKC, so I called them Hidden Fork Left and Hidden Fork Right. Both are circa II although Right is def harder than Left. I used North Gully to get down to link the 2 routes together.

A great day with Emily and Jonathan on Aonach Mòr - their first ice climb and first grade 3, and first time on the East Face. They are on their @jaggedglobe #wintermountaineering course. We thought we’d have a cruisy day on the East Face in the Web Area, so we got the 9am Gondola. Spider Rib was busy, so we moved over to The Web, and then I realised that I had my work cut out for me - there was a huge amount of slab on the first pitch. I had to clear all of the slab to the belay - I’ve never put so many runners in this pitch before! The second pitch was simpler, but by now we were in top gear to make the gondola. It was a big team effort to get the climbing done and get down to the gondola in time. This was Emily’s and Jonathan’s first multi pitch ice climb. Before this, they’d only done grade 1, so they did well on the grade 3 bits. The cornice had developed again above the Web, so we used the Spider Rib exit.

A great day with John and Stefan on their @jaggedglobe climbing course. Today we were on Aonach Mòr and Spider Rib.

Friday was the last day of the @jaggedglobe #wintermountaineering course. We took the teams to SCNL to climb Dorsal Arête and Summit Buttress. Well done to all the teams for your enthusiasm, energy and good humour. Hope to see you all again (when there’s more snow!).

Curved Ridge on Buachaille Etive Mor today (6th Jan 2023), with Tobias & Lewis. It wasn’t in full on winter conditions today - in fact we only put crampons on nearly at the top of Curved Ridge. A Great day all the same.

A sublime day on Ben Nevis yesterday with Tony and Jenson. The weather was the type that you hope for but rarely get. Such a great day. The path was very tricky however with solid water ice in many places - often difficult to negotiate.
