Good news for the UK Travel Industry.

According to ABTA’s latest Holiday Habits report out this week, more people are turning to travel professionals to arrange their holidays.

The report shows a year-on-year increase in Brits booking with a travel agent or tour operator from 34% in 2023 to 38% in 2024.

The rise has been particularly dramatic among families with young children, with 55% saying they booked with a travel professional in the 12 months to August 2024, compared with 36% in the previous year.

There was also a jump in the number of people aged 18-24 who book with agents or operators – 48% compared to 36% over the same time period.

“Our industry and its customers are once again dealing with the wide variety of operational challenges that can disrupt people’s plans with very little notice, be that natural disasters or technological disruption," said ABTA Chief Executive Mark Tanzer in his opening speech at this week’s ABTA Convention in Greece.

“While most people’s travels aren’t affected, there is clearly an increasing number of customers appreciating the reassurance of having an expert in their corner who can resolve any unexpected issues if needed.”

🏝 Spotlight on Fiji 🏝

🏝 Fiji is made up of over 330 islands.
🏝 It has a tropical climate where the year-round temperature rarely drops below 20 degrees.
🏝 The most popular time to visit is during the dry season from May to Oct when it's less humid. The wet season from Nov to April is hotter and you can expect tropical storms, however, these are short-lived and it's a quieter time to visit.
🏝 You can fly to Fiji from the UK via the USA or SE Asia (the quickest route is via Singapore) and it's within easy reach of both Australia (4hrs) and New Zealand (3hrs).
🏝 As you would expect, Fiji has beautiful white sandy beaches but it's also blessed with lush rainforests, waterfalls and coral reefs - it has been named the "soft coral capital of the world".
🏝 It's a great destination for those seeking soft-adventure like sailing, hiking, snorkelling and deep sea fishing.
🏝 It's very easy to travel between the islands, either by ferry or helicopter, with short transfer times.
🏝 Fiji is considered one of the best places in the world to scuba dive with a huge variety of world-class dive sites.
🏝 Fijians are know for their friendliness and Bula welcome.
🏝 English is widely spoken and they drive on the left making it easy to hire a car.
🏝 The most popular Islands for a first time visit are the Mamanuca Islands to the west of the main island Viti Levu.
🏝 Fiji has a variety of accomodation from back-packer hostels to 7* resorts and many international hotels brands can be found there.

Today is my 5th anniversary as a Travel Counsellor.

I am so privileged to be able to say that I absolutley love my job!

Thanks to those of you who have supported my small business over the past 5 years. I have some fabulous clients who come back to me time and time again to book their holidays and recommend me to their families and friends, enabling me to grow my business further. Without you I wouldn't be where I am today.

Today we visited the rugged east coast of Barbados which is known for its small boutique style accommodation, eco-tourism and surfing. It’s a complete contrast to the calm waters and luxury hotels associated with the popular west coast. We were treated to a fantastic lunch at Zemi East Coast Cafe in Bathsheba.

Today we did a tram tour of Harrison’s Caves followed by Mount Gay rum tasting, the birthplace of rum - established in 1703.

Today we had the opportunity of visiting a few of our partner hotels in Barbados.

Day 1 in Barbados.

We spent an amazing morning onboard the Cool Runnings catamaran, snorkelling with turtles and over ship wrecks. This was followed by a delicious lunch and Manta Ray sightings (and copious amounts of rum punch of course)!

In the evening we were treated to live music and a fire show on the beach where the evening before we watched a turtle laying her eggs.

It’s so lovely sitting on our balcony listening to the sound of the waves and the sea is like a warm bath.
