Some wonderful Monday news!

We are delighted to announce an award from The Museums Estate and Development Fund (MEND). This funding, as well as a significant contribution from Colchester City Council, will pay for vital repairs to Hollytrees Museum. Thanks to these repairs, Colchester Museums can ensure the continued safety of its important collections, including Bernard Mason’s fascinating collection of Colchester clocks and offer a warm welcome to its many visitors.

Councillor Pam Cox, Portfolio Holder for Culture and Heritage, said: “Colchester Museums would like to thank DCMS, Arts Council England, and Colchester City Council for their generous support of this project, as we continue to protect and preserve the beautiful and historically important Hollytrees Museum for future generations to enjoy."

During this time of national mourning Colchester Museums are observing a quiet social media presence.

A book of condolence has been placed in the Garden Room at Hollytrees Museum, which is open Monday to Friday from 10am – 5pm.

Please note, all our Museums will be closed on Monday 19th September, so the book will not be available on this day.

Due to the state funeral for Queen Elizabeth II on Monday 19 September we will be closed on this day as a mark of respect and to allow staff to mourn the nation's loss.

We will open as normal on Tuesday 20 September. Thank you for understanding.

All of us at Visit Colchester were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Her Majesty The Queen yesterday.

As a part of Colchester Borough Council we would like to echo the sentiments expressed by the Mayor, Leader of the Council and Chief Executive as well as sending our own sympathy and condolences to the Royal Family.

Out of respect our social media accounts will be quieter than usual, but we will try to draw your attention to any closures or cancellations, as well as relevant local civic events as they are announced.
