This year we continued to support in their quest to establish new woodlands across the County .This is achieved not just by tree planting,but also with a programme of ongoing maintenance and support to give these newly forested areas the best chance of survival. We donated for every day of tours we delivered in 2024, and are delighted to announce that as a result we established over 950M2 (over 10000ft2)of new woodland and planted 120 trees , which will continue to be managed over the next 5-7 years. A tree planting day took place this week , helping to establish a new temperate rainforest on Bodmin Moor. James was delighted to attend and had a great day planting over 30 trees .

Took another opportunity today to explore some more of hidden Cornwall. The Luxulyan Valley is probably the least known of the 10 districts that make up the Cornwall and West Devon mining UNESCO World heritage sites. It's a little gem with lovely woodland walks punctuated with amazing features and relics from a bygone industrial age. Not least of these is the impressive Treffery Viaduct ..built around 1840 it's over 220 yards (204m) long and spans the valley, almost uniquely it carried both a tramway and a water leat, servicing the Fowey Consuls Mine. We always try to give our guests the best experiences, and that applies to our recommendations for places to eat. We don't take commission from anyone, we just want to make sure that wherever we take people we know it will be a quality experience..the sort of place we would go ourselves...like tonight at the fantastic Boscastle Farm Shop. James and his wife Wendy went along to enjoy their steak night , and as usual it was terrific. The farm shop has become a must visit location in North Cornwall for us and is as much a part of the tour as going to Tintagel! Jackie, Tracey (pictured with me), Kelley and the team are always cheerfully and attentive and the food always excellent..as shown by them recently winning the prestigious taste of the West regional best cafe and tearoom awards...ie the best cafe in all of SW England! Bravo guys, looking forward to bringing lots of our guests to see you again next year .

Winter is a bit of downtime, but work still carries on! We are always looking to widen our knowledge and today we took some time out to visit some areas of Dartmoor which 3 of us don't often visit, but Nigel knows well. We are getting quite a collection! 5 Gold Awards at the Cornwall Tourism Awards since 2017 ..(and we didn't enter 2020-2023) and a Silver and two bronze trophies at the SW of England Awards. We are very proud of these achievements ! No SW Awards this year so we have been nominated direct to the Visit England National Awards!
Really tough competition in the International Tourism Category nationally, so it would be a real honour and a total surprise if anything comes of it..but stranger things have happened! ..we find out next March.

Final tour of this year today, and what an enjoyable day. Great company with Maryanne and Heather, who are longstanding friends with each other, from Maine USA on a lovely sunny day in the Dartmoor National Park .We started at the beautiful village of Lustleigh with all its thatched Cottages and houses. On to Haytor and Widecombe in the Moor, before lunch and shopping in Tavistock. This afternoon we spent some time at Merrivale visiting the bronze aged village, stone rows, cists and Menhirs before heading to Whiteworks , where the beauty and solitude of the moor was spellbinding. A quick visit to Postbridge on the way back to Exeter finished a memorable day.

Wells is one of our favourite locations. The Bishops Palace has a moat and the resident swans at feeding time pull the cord to ring the bell to indicate they want some more!
