Pop along to to check out their wonderful selection of original art pieces and prints. Also lots of gift ideas for Christmas (just over a month to go!..). Behind the scenes we are very busy working on a number of projects with local artist Ruth Slater and Bute Signs & Graphics. The first of these will be a map of the grounds and cottages at Kames. Here is a wonderful video where Ruth is working on the detail of Colmac Cottage.

At this time of the year we can't promise blue skies every day on Bute, or even blue skies for one full day (!), but there were beautiful blue skies at least for some of this week. This video was taken on Thursday morning in the walled garden at Kames. Not bad for October. Thank you to Ross for sharing.

A bird's eye view of the walled garden. Guests at Kames can enjoy this wonderful space which includes the Victorian glasshouse and some fun garden games for friends and family. As we move through the seasons, different herbs and produce are ready for harvest and guests are free to help themselves during their stay. Those staying at Clutha, the largest of our cottages, have the added delight of walking directly into the walled garden from the patio doors.

There has been some beautiful blue skies on the Isle of Bute recently - perfect for a stroll in the walled garden at Kames Castle Cottages. We look forwrad to welcoming guests back so that they can enjoy all that Kames and this wonderful island have to offer, as soon as restrictions allow.

Kames Castle Cottages, Past & Present

It is said that the King of Scotland, Robert the Bruce, gifted Kames to the Bannatyne family in the 14th century. Thus Kames Estate has a long and interesting history and all of the cottages at Kames are listed by Historic Scotland. At the centre of the estate is the impressive 14th Century Keep. The exterior of the Keep was renovated in 2018 and now proudly shows the original stone work. Extensive lead work was also completed on the roof and new windows installed throughout. In years gone by the cottages around the Keep and throughout the estate have seen various uses, such as hunting lodges for the Marquess of Bute and accommodation for the many gardeners who looked after the walled garden. The seven self-catering cottages that are currently available for rent provide modern and comfortable accommodation and can sleep between two and nine guests.
