As the dust settles on their amazing effort, it is worth taking stock on what an achievement Team Wild Waves (Jessica Oliver & Charlotte Harris) have accomplished!

With zero rowing experience before signing up to row across the Atlantic back in 2022, Jessica and Charlotte proved without doubt they were up to the challenge by beating the world record for a female pair by 5 days and raising a huge £100,000 for Shelter and Women’s aid in the process. Not content with one record and having clearly caught the bug, the pair signed up for this year’s Pacific row with the intention of achieving another world record. And, wow… did they deliver!

In a time of 37 days and 11 hours, Team Wild Waves:
• Broke the Female Pairs record by 9 days!
• Broke the overall pairs record (Male, Female and Mixed) by 2 days!!

A huge Congratulations to Jessica and Charlotte on their unbelievable achievement.

NMSI are proud to have again been able to play a small role in supporting their efforts, with Jessica and Charlotte showing us all what can be achieved when you combine lofty goals, teamwork, grit and determination. Challenging yourself and your teammates/colleagues to aim high is not always easy but when people are willing to work together, trust each other even through the hard times, excellence will always be around the corner.

While we are sure plenty more stories will come from this amazing challenge, for anyone that is able to show support, let’s help the girls achieve their fundraising target of raising £50k for Shelter – https://givestar.io/gs/0C93EVW?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAAR2psIWpz4zCoYQOtZn9lAKh5ebayhm5NUgpjzJxh-TzAqxMf2960Q3Y_eM_aem_RwXNT9MHDEZWoNb4XYLSXg

It's the final push! Jessica and Charlotte (Team Wild Waves) are just under a day away from completing their row across The Pacific... The last 2 weeks has seen them give up their lead in the pairs race but grab it back with only a few days remaining; a show of pure grit, determination and team work that we can only be inspired by! As their family and friends await their arrival in Kauai, let's help them reach their £50k fundarising target for Shelter - please give whatever you can: https://givestar.io/gs/0C93EVW?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAAR2psIWpz4zCoYQOtZn9lAKh5ebayhm5NUgpjzJxh-TzAqxMf2960Q3Y_eM_aem_RwXNT9MHDEZWoNb4XYLSXg

Jessica and Charlotte have completed 1000 miles of the Pacific row! The girls are doing brilliantly and have covered the first third of the race which is always the hardest. They are lying in second position, the leading pair and the leading females. Only just behind a team of 4 males. They remain in great spirits in spite of some challenging conditions. All this is to raise money for Shelter and help the homeless. Please support them by following this link:

Last week the hospital at Runyararo, Zimbabwe, was officially opened by Vice President Kembo Mohadi. This modern, fully equipped health centre will bring much needed facilities to a rural area of Zimbabwe where previously residents would have to walk many kilometres to reach the nearest hospital. VP Mohadi was given a tour of the facilities by Business Development Manager Alistair Johnston, and he was impressed with the facilities. The hospital will serve a population of around 13,000 people, all of them Cyclone Idai survivors.

Today is World Environment Day, the United Nations’ annual day of awareness and action for the environment. This year the focus is on land restoration, desertification and drought resilience, all of which are important issues where NMSI work in Sub-Saharan Africa. As a business we are marking the day with an internal information campaign raising awareness of these issues and the challenges and opportunities facing us all.

World Environment Day is the United Nations day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment.

Yesterday our teams participated in 'Wear it Green Day' to support Mental Health Awareness Week. We sat down with our colleagues, sharing (green) food and talked about our experiences. Every year, 1 in 4 of us will experience a mental health problem. But too many of us aren’t getting the help we need. Over 2 million people are waiting for NHS mental health services, and since 2017 the number of young people struggling with their mental health has nearly doubled. It is vital that we support each other and speak out if we are struggling.
