Virtual Dark Skies Event -12th February - 28th February

The Virtual Dark Skies Festival offers a fantastic range of Dark Skies events for everyone to access. The aim is to help people learn and understand the Dark Skies and particularly focus on what we have to offer in the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors, when we are able to welcome visitors back.

Seasons on the Hill Farm

THE SPIRIT OF BIRKDALE is captured in a newly published book called Seasons on the Hill Farm by Richmond author and photographer, Ian Short. This heartfelt account of the Calvert family and their multigenerational quest to breed the best Swaledale sheep is a perfect read for lockdown days and lockdown nights. The compelling text of this 170-page book is lavishly illustrated with original B & W and colour photos taken over the seasons and are a tribute to this beautiful and remote landscape and the dedication of the farming families who preserve it.
