We had pomegranate seeds today. Handpicked from the land of Naples.

I was asked to tell the story of Proserpine or Persephone - according to Greek and Roman myth she ate 6 pomegranate seeds and so had to stay in the underworld for 6 months. There's more to the story, so do look it up, or come on one of our tours for more Greek and Roman myths!

The seeds were super tasty too, and I loved how they brought together friendship, the present day, myth and history! Quite magical! X

Jigsaw Puzzles

I spent a wonderful morning exploring the Roman Forum in Rome today and we had fun trying to fit together fragments like a jigsaw puzzle. Can you see how these two pieces would fit together?

If you can get your imagination working it is really quite a remarkable place. With lots of jigsaw puzzles.

Also, amazing autumnal weather! X

So, what creatures do you think these are? And what should we call them? I think they need names.

These are some backs of some of the creatures on the gates of the Henry VII chapel in Westminster Abbey, dating back to the early 1500s - but they look so modern!

Next time I'll have to try and get photos of their faces!

There are always so many fascinating details hidden away in buildings x

So, we were crouched down looking at paving stones. I thought, people must be thinking what are these weirdos doing studying two paving stones so closely.

I was using them to explain the left and right of politics, and what centre left and centre right was, and what far right and far left was. It worked quite well!

Use what you have around you!

Have a great day! X

We got some paint pens today and B's drawn Big Ben on a stone. They make such nice drawings. Am trying to work out how to incorporate this in a tour. But I doubt my clients want a bag full of stones to take home... Any ideas?! X

things to do for the summer in London with kids:

Tate Modern. Uniqlo Tate Play. Oscar Murillo. The Flooded Garden. Cost: free. Notes: wear old clothes. it's messy!

it opens at 10.30, but I recommend getting there about 10.10 with some activities and wait in line. as you can see, loads of paintings. I was with 2 8 year olds and we stayed an hour. The theme is water. The kids LOVED it. lots of littlies there as well.

But! you don't need kids to go. It's for all ages. I painted too! It's so relaxing, and fun. Make sure you pop into Murillo's paintings in the Tanks as well. Totes recommend x

Lovely afternoon of art recce-ing Tate Modern, Uber boat to Millbank and then a recce of Tate Britain.

But at Tate Modern I saw this! Am a little obsessed. I mean, what?! What's going on? Super odd. I really like it. And slightly freaked out. 🤣

(The cafe is also very lovely with very tasty sandwiches and cakes! And the grounds are gorgeous!) X

And today my 8 year old insisted we play, with 'I love this game!'. I broke her winning streak! 💪

is really fun . Thank you. It's a favourite already, small enough to take on journeys and really useful to make historical names familiar to little people (and adults tbh).

Can I add, it's also fabulously diverse. Everyone is included. Love that x

Really looking forward to playing this again! We went to the launch of amazing little game that we both loved (that's an 8 year old and a 44 year old). The venue was also great, a gorgeous little bookshop at Clapham Common . So of course ended up buying some books as well. Well done Alex and the team... A fabulous game! We'll be playing! X

One of my handouts for my Natural History Museum Scavenger Hunt!

Yes, I drew it. Clearly, I'm not a great artist! And probably the colour and scale isn't quite right. But it's to show young people that they don't have to be perfect draughtspeople to draw, as well as to make learning a bit more fun. I think it came out quite well 😂

So I meant to post this for New Year, but life got in the way.

This is a door hinge, and I bought it because I recently discovered that the Romans had a goddess of door hinges. That's good enough in itself. The humble door hinge had a goddess. But there's more to her than you might think.

Her name was Cardea and she had the power to close what is open and open what is closed, she is a threshold between the past and the future, one door closes and another one opens. She is closely linked to the god Janus, who has two faces and represents beginnings and endings.

So next time you see a humble door hinge, think of Cardea. Maybe she'll help in time of change.

Happy belated New Year x

Gosh, I didn't post much this Christmas, it was busy! I was scrolling through my photos and remembered I'd been at the Natural History Museum and saw this Christmassly dressed T-Rex! He looked good!

We did the Pantomime! Thanks to who we greatly wanted to join us. Cinderella at and it was brilliant! Great panto with lots of 'oh no you're not!'. Three kids loved it. So did I!

Panto is a very odd, British tradition. Very slap stick, lots of audience participation, always a Dame, it's a bit bonkers but very fun. If you come to London at Christmas time book one for a proper British experience!

(To my guide friends: Is it English or British? I'm not sure...)
