It all started back in October 2022 with a short film called ‘Evolution’, working with Shimano-MTB to celebrate stories of human resilience, evolution and the power of the most beautiful invention in the world: the bicycle.

Tomorrow (July 4th, 19:00 CEST) sees the release of episode four of ‘Evolution Stories’ featuring a remarkable women I’m fortunate to call a pal.

In the meantime, here’s a reminder of episode one (link below) featuring an equally special man - James McCallum. ❤️

Hearing today that one of my favourite Scottish bands - Niteworks - is coming to an end, left me slightly sad.

It got me reminiscing about a few years back, when we were fortunate to find in them the perfect track to accompany a film project we worked on with DMBinS and Eric Porter.

Sláinte Niteworks! 🥃

I got a lovely message from my big bruv Steve this morning about last year’s Shimano-MTB ‘Evolution’ film.

Sometimes I’m barely finished one project before my head’s already onto the next one, without fully savouring the thing we’ve just created.

Steve reminded me it’s a powerful film not just for the Stoked on MS community but for anyone with an interest in (or maybe a lost connection to) getting out and enjoying nature wherever in the world you are.

If you haven’t seen it already, have a watch. I hope it makes you feel something, and hopefully something good. ❤️

We’ve been humbled by the public response to our film After the Storm. We chose this time to release the film because today (March 21st) marks the United Nations’ International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is observed annually on the day the police in Sharpeville, South Africa, opened fire and killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration against apartheid "pass laws" in 1960.

As we know - and as the film relays from personal experience - racism and many forms of toxic discrimination are alive and well 63 years later.

Watch the film, share the film, use the film to propagate difficult and important conversations, and most of all - challenge discrimination.

Following a year of being on the film festival circuit After the Storm is finally released today.

This film was a turning point for - it’s a deeply personal story of her experience of racism at work and how the bike helped her deal with the trauma. It’s a timely release as we shortly mark the United Nations’ International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination and consider how far we’ve come, and how much more is needed to eradicate the evil of racism.

It’s a story that might’ve stayed buried, gnawing away at Aneela - but we were emboldened and encouraged to make a film about this uneasy part of our lives (thanks ) because others can benefit from its telling.

Racism is uncomfortable - we don’t like to admit it still exists. It can be subtle, behind closed doors and insidious, couched in curiosity about the other - daily micro aggressions which if not checked can slowly eat away at someone despite how much they try to ignore it or laugh it off, and it can have a long term damaging impact.

Through making the film and recounting her experiences - Aneela’s released the hurt and found her voice. We owe a debt of gratitude to many - some who are featured in the film and joined us in the chorus of -

🙏🏽

It took a lot for us to tell and share this story and it wouldn’t have happened without the support of

We hope you enjoy it and we want everyone to , to be brave and to call it out / call it in when you see or hear it.

This beautifully (and rightly) irreverent film by The Adventure Syndicate and Politics of Patents uncovers research into thousands of historic clothing patents which revealed a hidden history of innovators and inventive clothing that helped women defy political and societal restrictions barring their access to living active and sporting lives.

On International Women’s Day, we celebrate these pioneering women and their courageous steps towards equality.

As time passes and equity is fully realised, we look forward to looking back and chuckling as this too becomes another relic of a bygone era. ❤️

British Cycling has recently welcomed six new names to its network of trained Mountain Bike Leaders, working alongside the MTB Colour Collective to strengthen representation of people from diverse ethnic communities in leadership roles.

The course was led by Aneela McKenna, Co-chair of British Cycling’s Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Group, who is also an experienced mountain bike guide and coach. Aneela was instrumental in setting up the leadership course working alongside Phil Young, Jo Shwe, Dan Cook and Christine Fox to strengthen mountain bike leadership across the UK.

Prior to the course, Aneela was one of only two people of colour to be trained as a Mountain Bike Leader in the UK. Following the course, Aneela said:

“I've always wanted to see more people of colour out leading on the trails. If we want to widen participation, we need role models to inspire others to participate and cycle. The Colour Collective has some great riders with good skills and experience of the outdoors. I would like to see that skillset used in a professional way to help grow our community of mountain bikers in the UK.”

The second edition of ‘Diversity in Cycling’ was published this week. The author Andy Edwards invited to write the foreword and set the context for this important report. Andy and Aneela first met in 2020 and are members of ’s Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Group in which Aneela chairs.

This second edition introduces new voices and perspectives from the broader cycling community, including road, off-road, and mountain biking. Aneela was pleased to see that the report explicitly amplifies the voices of women, and uncovers the depth of inequalities uniquely experienced by women of colour in cycling, captured through the stories shared in the report.
