Part of Gregors 26 fish session which started on the small lake then a move into n8 main lake then a move to n1 then n4 then back into n8 , I’ve never been so knackered watching him walking up and down the lake!😁😆 and yes I offered various times to move his stuff around the lakes as I do for everyone!
Edit: I should also mention Gregor is a regular here and is back in July for his 15th session!!

Woke up this morning to see the water levels up 15+cm after a 45 minute torrential downpour yesterday evening!
As normal removed a sluice board or 2 to drop the levels and went to check the security overflow between the 2 lakes as any debris normally collects here and slows the flow from main lake into small lake and then out, to say I was surprised was an understatement to see 8-10 fish spawning!!😁
There’s been none of the usual behavior that normally precedes this amazing activity especially as this year the weather so far can only be described as wet wet and more of the wet stuff with cold in between and more of the wet stuff mixed with a few hot t-shirt days!!

This time of year/season can be stressful on the fish anyway due to their immune systems playing catch up with faster rising bacterial, fungal and parasitic levels having a head start after the winter add into this the elevated hormone levels and stress that spawning produces and well we all know what stress can cause!
If your sat on a watercourse and the fish start to spawn or are already going through their rituals leave them alone, go home or wind your rods in, their not interested in feeding anyway and watch an absolutely amazing spectacle unfold that many anglers might never see!!

I’ve been asked previously and I’m sure will get asked again what happens here if I have clients fishing and the spawning rituals starts, very simple you WIND YOUR RODS IN and enjoy the show, if the client wants to leave that’s fine with me and I’ll replace those lost days either later in the season or the following!!
After seeing what’s started I can only assume the fish will start spawning more aggressively and will add photos and videos as and when. Peace ✌️

Week 2 got off to a blinding start with temperatures of 25 degrees over the weekend!
With Phil and Giulio arriving Saturday and Mathijs and Stoop arriving Sunday evening things were looking up after the cold temperatures and cold rain that had interrupted the fishing towards the end of the previous week.
After a quick walk along the lake and with me suggesting n1 as there’d been fish caught the week before n1 was chosen and what a good decision that turned out to be!
Unfortunately (for me 😆) Giulio’s baitboat decided it wasn’t going to play ball and open the hopper so I suggested that I’d use my boat and paddle out to bait up for them, little did I know this would become a daily exercise session for me 😆 by me baiting up it allowed me to use a sensible amount of bait spread over a good portion of the far margin and around the leaning oak tree,
At this time of the season here it’s very easy to over feed your spots as the fish are still waking up and to see how they’re reacting and feed more if needed! Remember you can’t take out what you’ve put in but can add to it as and when needed and with me baiting up for them, testing my vast amount of knowledge and skill 😆 what a test it turned out to be!
I can’t remember the order of fish caught or on which days BUT and it’s a big but something was unfolding that would be a very memorable session for Phil and Giulio unfortunately the weather decided to change my thoughts with only 1 fish being caught in the last 3 days!

Mathijs and Stoop decided to start their 5 day session on the small lake as it was empty and not to disturb Phil and Giulio, with Mathijs fishing left towards the house and Stoop fishing to the right it only took 5 minutes for him to bank his 1st fish a cracking common of 14kg/30lbs with Mathijs catching his 1st fish Monday morning but this time a mirror of 15.3kg/33:07lbs
After 3 nights and 10 fish they moved into n8 main lake catching 3 fish with the biggest being a 22.7kg/50:4 mirror
I’m waiting for Phil and Giulio’s photos and videos so until then here’s Mathijs and Stoops fish.

Bit of a late update for the opening week of the 2024 season! Still waiting for photos and catch report but will add them as and when I get them!

The season got underway on Friday April 5th with the arrival of Michel and his wife followed by Darryl who has fished here since 2009!
With Michel and wife opting to fish n1 and Darryl dropping into n8 (his usual swim at this time of the year) it only took a few minutes for the 1st fish of 2024 to be caught, an immaculate common of 17.7kg/39.02lbs for Darryl
Michel and co got off to a good start catching a couple of fish overnight (no weights supplied) what was looking like a promising start was interrupted by a France wide orange weather warning which was saying 110kmh/70mph winds, hailstones, torrential rain and 1 of the best electrical storms I’ve witnessed! Unfortunately during this storm Michel had a run and a serious soaking!
Michel finished with 7 fish during his long weekend trip
Darryl finished with 13 fish (no photos yet) I’ll do a separate update.
Tuesday morning saw the arrival of KGB baits team member Bart who very kindly delivered a bait sample for me, dropping onto the small lake for a few nights catching 7 fish with the biggest being 16kg/35lbs I think
So not a bad start to the season!
This weeks anglers have got off to a flyer!

1st fish of 2024 for regular Darryl 17.7kg/39lbs, he also lost another fish 🤦‍♂️
The other anglers in n1 main lake have had 3 fish but I don’t know the sizes yet Ol and they lost a fish as well🤦‍♂️
With warm weather expected over the weekend and into next week I’m hoping to see a few more caught!

05/04/2024

Well that didn’t take long!
Rods went out at 5pm
1st fish of the 2024 season
17.7kg/39lbs common

5 day countdown to the 2024 season!

Had to drop the water levels Thursday due to a lot of rain (hasn’t really stopped raining all winter!!) that flooded the front of swim 1 main lake, luckily I forgot to put the boards back into the sluice yesterday as what water drained was replaced last night/this morning!

Little update after the fun and games of yesterday!
Managed (again 😉) to match the inflowing water to the outflowing without any bad flooding but then again after 17yrs of living here I should know what I’m doing by now!😆 must admit I expected more tree damage around the lakes although I’ve not been down the main lake (can’t see any trees in the lake from the dam wall) yet as the sound of trees coming down in the forest was impressive to say the least and I’m sure my chainsaw will get a workout over the next few days clearing up!

Many thanks to you who sent stay safe messages it means a lot!

22/02/2024

Jeeez another hour of the wet stuff to add to the 65mm of rain overnight and today with winds gusting to 60+kmh and I can relax, 5 trees down so far but expecting more strong winds tomorrow oh the life of a fishery owner!🤦‍♂️

Alarm goes off and I’m greeted with this!😍
