AFTER SEVERAL YEARS, JULIET FLETCHER, THE FOUNDER OF GMIA, HAS STEPPED AWAY FROM THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF GMIA.

We are grateful for Juliet’s vision, passion and diligence in laying a foundation through which we are able to champion the legacy of gospel music, as well as highlight the incredible work of our gospel practitioners who have worked tirelessly in the UK gospel scene.

Juliet’s rich knowledge and understanding of the gospel scene in the UK has helped to undergird the inspiration and infrastructure through which GMIA will continue to serve the gospel community through projects such as the introduction of Gospel Graded Music Exams and other music programmes in partnership with RSL; heritage projects that seek to capture, preserve and platform material relating to our heritage; advocating for gospel practitioners, and educating and developing all our gospel music practitioners in any way that we can. We hold dear and look forward to the continued support of the community as we move forward these GMIA initiatives.

We, the board, thank Juliet for her many trailblazing and pioneering years of service to the gospel community and wish her all the best in her future endeavours.

What a night! The inaugural Gospel Excellence Honours Night, hosted by RSL Awards and GMIA, was simply brilliant!

With sensational live music, celebrated gospel legends, and several fervent calls to push gospel qualifications forward, the Gospel Excellence Honours Night, which took place on Tuesday 16th April 16, 2024, was the first instalment of the ground-breaking new initiative to empower aspiring performers in gospel music.

Gospel Music Industry Alliance (GMIA) have worked extensively with RSL Awards to create a Rockschool Graded Exam for singers who perform in the Gospel tradition. Starting with Grade 6, candidates can choose from a range of benchmarked pieces that have been chosen by leading Gospel partitioners such as RSL Fellows Karen Gibson, Audrey Lawrence-Mattis and Anu Omideyi.

We are absolutely delighted to join forces with RSL Awards to launch the first ever Gospel Graded Exams in the world and to honour luminaries of the UK Gospel Music community with fellowships (honorary degrees) for their service and contributions to music, with particular reference to gospel music. These fellows have excelled in their various music disciplines and continue to set the standard high in music. They hail from across the UK but many, if not all, have international impact. They are thoroughly deserving and we couldn't be more pleased to give them their flowers.

The Gospel Excellence Honours Night was held at King's Place on Tuesday 16th April and was an incredible night of recognition and fellowship. For too long many of our gospel music professionals have worked tirelessly in gospel and mainstream music with excellence but with little or no recognition from the wider music industry. Tuesday night was the first step in beginning to answer that omission. We know that there are many more deserving gospel music practitioners in the UK. To these we say: please charge it to our heads and not our hearts. We see you, we honour you, we value you, we salute you, we love you. And we’ll be back for you next time around!

The Gospel Graded Vocal Exams are available right now! Head over to rslawards.com for more information. Visit gmia.org.uk to learn more about us.

We are SUPER excited about this partnership and movement! 🎉

We are SUPER excited about this partnership and movement! 🎉

RSL Awards & GMIA - Gospel Music Industry Alliance partner to honour UK Gospel Icons and inspire Rising Stars with Revolutionary Gospel Qualifications.

The UK music scene is poised for a revolution as a pioneering initiative is announced to introduce groundbreaking qualifications for accomplished gospel singers and musicians. Until now, the proficiency and level of musicianship amongst gospel professionals have not been recognised outside of gospel circles. Therefore, to drive change, we, at RSL Awards, have partnered with the Gospel Music Industry Alliance, (GMIA) to release an exciting new initiative created to award these standards of excellence.

RSL Awards and GMIA will offer a suite of Ofqual regulated grades to formally assess gospel practitioners who demonstrate their performance skills at a grade 6 level or above. These qualifications carry UCAS points making them ideal for those looking to bolster University and Higher Education applications.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. We pray for comfort for the Royal Family, the people of the United Kingdom and those she served around the world in her roles as Supreme Governor of the Church of England and Head of the Commonwealth. May she rest in peace in the arms of her saviour, Jesus Christ, who the Queen described as, ‘an inspiration and an anchor in my life’.
