Fair question and one we (like most tour operators/travel agents) often get asked. Here's a few reasons (there's probably more!):

𝗔 𝗯𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘂𝘀.... Despite being British, the owners of Experience Albania lived in Albania for a number of years. From Vlora on the coast, Tepelena in the south/centre to the capital, Tirana.
So we know Albania very well indeed and speak the language too.
We want this page and our site to become somewhere where people can, not only, come for genuine Albanian holidays and advice/answers from us but also that it will be a community where all can share their tips!!

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗜 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝗹𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗮?
We often hear this question from people travelling to Albania from the UK.
You can't get the local currency (leke) until you are inside the country. You'll also often hear it said that Euros are useful. So which is it?
The good news it, it's all rather straightforward.... UK Pounds are absolutely fine to take and exchange when you get there. There are Bureaux de Change in every major town/city - including Tirana, if that's your first stop.
When you arrive, it is is possible to exchange in the airport but watch the rate where you’re getting it from! Best one tends to be from ‘Iliria 98’ - you should find them pretty competitive even compared with those in town.
There are ATMs in the airport from which you can withdraw cash using a UK bank card, just watch the charges.
The bus from the airport to Tirana Centre will accept Euros so if you have some lying around at home this is the one point you may want to have them to hand in Albania.
Finally, Scottish and Northern Irish notes are not readily exchanged. Regardless of the 'fairness' of this, it is what it is, so do make sure you don't have those or you will come unstuck!!
