We saw gentoo penguins pretty much everywhere in Antarctica. They certainly have no fear of us and welcome the chance to use our temporary paths as their penguin highways....happy Friday! 🐧

We spent the morning walking on an ice shelf. Actual frozen sea! And if that wasn't enough for 1 day's excitement, we then met this chapess. We've sent this photo to Happy Whale who will track her & let us know if she's been spotted before and if she's seen again in the future. She answers to Baloo so let us know if you happen to meet 🐳

Penguins need a snow free surface to lay their eggs so they crowd every patch of bare rock they find. The pinky brownish steaks mark their highways. They projectile p**p literally everywhere. They may seem cute but have no manners! 🐧🐧🐧

As we sailed through the Gerlache Strait on Christmas evening, our ship was surrounded by about 20 humpback whales plunge feeding. The captain pretty much stopped the ship so we could enjoy for a while. Mind blown. 🐳🐳🐳

Wishing you all a happy 2022. We're back from a phenomenal trip in Antarctica and have hundreds of photos to sort through. We'll post a few over the coming days but until then, enjoy the last few days of the holidays. 🍾🥂

We've been to so many incredible places and had some remarkable experiences over the past 4 years. We got to reminiscing about our time in the southern hemisphere and asked ourselves if we could only revisit one place where would it be. As we opened a 2nd bottle of Malbec, we thought we'd have a little fun. We'd each write down that one place, and if they matched, we'd go again. So the upshot is, we're going back to Antarctica! Tomorrow!!!!

Of course, we'll share our pics when we're back on South American soil but until then, wishing you all a very merry Christmas!

One of the best weeks we've had in all of South America so far. Incredible experience. Big shout out to Angie y Diego and the entire team at Estancia Don Joaquin. Not forgetting our trusty steeds Gaucho, Rula, Silver & Million. 🐎🐎🐎🐎

Gauchos at work. While we know next to nothing about horses and little about cows before they arrive on the plate, we are quite certain the gauchos are incredibly skilled. These photos don't come close to communicating this but we hope you like them anyway.

A remarkable experience accompanying the gauchos to work. They needed to collect a herd of 100 cattle from the fields, drive them ro the carrole where they each received medical treatment. Their skill with the horses is out of this world. 🤠🐎🇦🇷

Day 3 of gaucho training has gone well. Saved a weasel from the pool, evicted 1 snake and a frog from the bo***ir, rescued a bat from the lampshade and taught our horses English. Still can't use a lasso so we're pouring our wine the old fashioned way. 🐎🤠🍷

Completely immersed in the gaucho way of life, but with stiff backs and sore bums! Lasso lessons are going to be fun & we don't think the cattle have anything to worry about. 🐴🐴🐴

For the first time in a long, long time, today we felt like tourists on an olive oil & balsamic vinegar tasting tour. Needless to say we left with a couple of bottles of each.

We need your help ticking off a couple of these birds. Our bird identification book has served us well so far, especially with birds with prominent colours. But most of the birds in these pics have us a bit stumped. We've taken a guess at a few but know some of you have far superior ornithological knowledge than us. Please help, our pen is poised ... 🦅🦉🦆 Also - any tips of photographing hummingbirds? They're a lot faster than us!

One of our favourite roads so far. Ever! Connecting Uspallata and Mendoza, the road literally twists & turns up to 3000m before turning & twisting down through the gorgeous Andes mountains in to miles upon miles of vineyards. We slept at 2600m, completely alone apart from plenty of local wildlife

Well that was an interesting jaunt. We've driven more miles in 2 days than in the last 20 months combined, eaten more strawberries than we care to think about, had our 1st ever PCR test (nobody warned us it would feel like we'd had a lobotomy), basically slept through a 5.7mag earthquake only 10km from it's epicentre, and if that wasn't enough, we've just passed through the newly opened border and now in Argentina!

Today's garden view.... only one of the most active volcanoes in Latin America & it's constantly smouldering. Throws our theory that if there's snow then we're safe, right out the window. 🗻

The local reserve protects and breeds native species of deer & wild boar. The local restaurant serves them. Rude not to.

Loving Huilo Huilo Biological Reserve. There are so many walking trails and most have waterfalls, river views, massive caves or loads of deer. Best we loiter a little longer....

Someone felt it appropriate to mark the lifting of Chile's state of emergency and the end of nightime curfews with a new do. 21 months growth gone in a few minutes. Now we need to invest in sunscreen instead of hair bands.
